Job summary

Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MTA) is seeking an experienced GIS High School Intern for our Palmer HQ facility. Interns will collaborate with GIS staff to research and correct discrepancies across GIS and BI reports affecting network, location, and billing data.

Responsibilities include analyzing discrepancy patterns, reconciling records, and maintaining clear written/oral communication. The internship emphasizes independent work with mentor oversight and teamwork, with duties expanding as needed.

Qualifications

• Applicant must be currently enrolled in a full-time high school and returning to school after the internship.
• GPA 3.0 or greater preferred.
• Strong computer skills in MS Office, GIS, drafting or scripting.

Job description

We are searching for an experienced GIS High School Intern at our Palmer HQ facility.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

Interns will work in close collaboration with the GIS Staff by assisting with the research and records corrections of various GIS and Business Intelligent (BI) generated discrepancy reports between the network equipment, customer location and billing information.

Specific Task Description

• Assist the GIS team with analysis, researching the cause(s) of various reports, including BI, BDC/HUBB, MSI, M4, etc. Help identify patterns in the discrepancies caused by current automation or current workflows failing, or where new automation may help.
• Assist with reconciling location or equipment information into a records database where applicable or notify the appropriate work group of corrections that need to be made by their department.
• Good written and oral communication skills are essential along with the ability to be effective and efficient, working either independently with mentor oversight, or as a supporting role as a member of a small team.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

Required Qualifications:

• Applicants currently enrolled in Computer Applications, Computer Science, Digital Literacy and Technology, AutoCAD, GIS or equivalent will be given first preference.
• Applicants will be currently enrolled in a full-time high school and returning to school after the completion of the internship. When a student intern is required during the normal school year, the applicant may be a part time student
• 3.0GPA or greater preferred.
• Strong computer skills in MS Office, GIS, drafting or scripting skills preferred.

Work Experience

• Previous related internship/work experience preferred; preference will be given to returning student interns that have performed satisfactorily in the past.
