Job summary

City of Laredo seeks a GIS professional to manage the Utilities GIS, develop the GIS database, and publish data for the department. You will serve as SME for pumped and gravity flow infrastructure data and support spatial analysis and mapping tasks.

You will edit data with ArcGIS/AutoCAD, configure GPS devices, analyze imagery, and coordinate multiple data sources. A Texas Driver License is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, MIS, or related field.
  • At least 1 year coordinating GIS data management, mapping, and database design.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and other geospatial software to edit data, perform spatial analysis, and produce maps.
  • Configures mobile devices including GPS equipment.
  • Performs aerial imagery analysis and digitizes features from imagery.
  • Coordinates and prioritizes inflow of geographic and tabular data.

Job description

Coordinates the management of the Utilities geographic information system, develops the Geographic Information System (GIS) database, reviews data sources/inputs, and the associated publishing of data for the Department. Serves as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for all GIS data related to pumped and gravity flow infrastructure.

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  • Uses ARCGIS, Auto CAD, and other Geospatial Software to perform editing, spatial analysis, and produce maps.
  • Configures mobile devices including GPS equipment.
  • Completes associated computer-related technical work.
  • Performs aerial imagery analysis and digitizes features using imagery.
  • Uses imagery analysis to identify project sites and locations.
  • Translates information on maps, surveys, and various other instruments used by various professions.
  • Researches, locates, analyzes various types of data within databases, maps, as well as local, state and national references.
  • Provides statistical analysis based on spatial data.
  • Develops spatial relationships with various types of data and formats.
  • Coordinates and prioritizes inflow of geographic and tabular data.
  • Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited* college or university in GIS, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, Management Information Systems, or related field.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in coordinating the management of geographic information system, associated mapping of the data, GIS database design, and data entry.

Foreign Education:
  • Applicants who have completed education outside of the United States must submit a foreign credential evaluation completed by a professional credential evaluation agency that is a member of the NationalAssociation of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES)or the Associationof International Credential Evaluators (AICE). The evaluation must verify the U.S. equivalency of the degree and identify the comparable U.S. degree level. Applicants are responsible for obtaining and submitting the required evaluation documentation.

Valid Licenses or Certifications
  • Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

As part of the minimum requirements for all positions with the City of Laredo, a thorough background check and certified school transcripts will be required from all applicants who are offered employment.

Effective February 24, 1997, all selected applicants are required to undergo a drug and alcohol test prior to employment.
