Job description

Job Title: Athletic Coach

Starting Date: Immediately

Reports to: The Athletic Director and Principal, who provides overall objectives and final evaluations.

Supervises: In several instances, the coach may advise, coordinate, and support a staff of assistant coaches and players.

Qualifications
  • Ability to organize and supervise a total flag football program
  • Previous successful coaching or playing flag football or football (preferred)
  • Previous successful coaching experience (preferred)
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of flag football and a continuous study of new theories and practices
  • Serves as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instruction and actions
  • Understanding of all Rowan‑Salisbury Schools and NCHSAA rules and guidelines
  • Completion of all requirements for coaching eligibility in compliance with Rowan‑Salisbury Schools and NCHSAA
General
  • The success of athletic programs strongly influences community image; public exposure is substantial and requires balancing winning performance with good sportsmanship and mental health.
  • The position includes extended time, injury risk factors, and due process predicaments.
  • This job description provides sufficient guidance. Where not covered, the coach shall exercise common sense and good judgment. The position is evaluated yearly and renewed following recommendation.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Rowan Salisbury Schools Board of Education and responsible for implementing them with the team’s staff.
  • Knowledge of existing system, state and league regulations; implements consistently and interprets for staff.
  • Awareness of public/staff/departmental meetings requiring attendance.
Staff Responsibilities
  • Established the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by assistants. Designs conferences, clinics and staff meetings to insure staff awareness of overall program.
  • Trains, informs staff, encourages professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance.
  • Delegates specific duties, supervises implementation and, at season's end, analyzes staff effectiveness and evaluates assistants.
  • Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances and works toward increased morale and cooperation.
  • Performs any other duties assigned by the athletic director or principal.
Administrative Duties
  • Provides safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
Student Responsibilities
  • Acts as a mentor to each athlete, promoting the development of character traits: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
  • Continuous attention to student athlete grades and conduct; provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards during practices, games, and travel.
  • Provides training rules, schedule, calendar, and any unique regulations of the sport to each athlete and their parents.
  • Follows programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention and emergencies.
  • Directs student managers, assistants, and statisticians; assists athletes in college or advanced educational selection.
Finance, Facility and Equipment
  • Accountable for all equipment; properly marks and identifies equipment before issuing or storing.
  • Monitors equipment rooms and coaches’ offices; authorizes who may enter, issue, or requisition equipment.
  • Permits athletes to be in authorized areas of the building at appropriate times.
  • Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games; checks general cleanliness of facility; responsible for maintenance of specific sport equipment and facility used.
  • Instills respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
Public Relations
  • Promotes the sport within the school by recruiting athletes not in another sports program and promotes the sport outside the school through news media, little league programs, or any other feasible manner.
  • Maintains good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
