Job summary

Eugene School District 4J (dba Lane County School District) is seeking auxiliary coaches for the 2026/2027 season to support head coaches and maintain program vision. You will work under the head coach to meet the needs of the school district and participants.

Ideal candidates understand basic sport principles, comply with OSAA/NFHS rules, and collaborate with diverse students and staff while maintaining confidentiality and professional conduct.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the basic aspects of the sport.
• Follows all state, league, and school rules and policies.
• Works effectively with diverse students and staff.
• Maintains confidentiality per HIPAA/FERPA.
• Must be at least 22 years old.

Responsibilities

• Assist head coaches in maintaining program vision.
• Support athletic programs to meet district needs.
• Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to educators and district staff.
• Adhere to HIPAA, FERPA and ethical educator practices.
• Lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

Job description

This position is for the 2026/2027 season.

Auxiliary coaches support the head coaches in maintaining the vision within the program. They work under the head coach to support the athletic programs to meet the needs of the school district and their participants.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Knowledge and understanding of the basic aspects of the sport.
2. Has knowledge of and complies with state, conference, league and school training, rules and regulations.
3. Complies with all state, conference, league and school rules and regulations, and policies approved by Eugene School District 4J, OSAA and NFHS.
4. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and community populations.
5. Maintain a high level of confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA and adherence to the competent and ethical educator practices.
6. Maintain compliance with state and federal laws governing all aspects of our agency including ORS, OAR, IDEA, FOIA, and CIPA.
7. Demonstrates respectful, flexible and effective teambuilding skills of cooperation, communication and active participation.
8. Present self and ESD4J in a professional manner including: in oral and written communication, professional disposition when working with others and maintaining professional dress standards.
9. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives.
10. Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.
11. Utilize teleservice platform to provide services to educators, students and district staff as directed.
12. Ability to lift, carry at least 25 pounds.
13. Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered qualified as determined by Human Resources.

Education:

• High School diploma or equivalent

Certification:

• Possession of a valid Red Cross First Aid Certificate, including CPR training methods and procedures.
• Successful completion of Concussion Management and other training courses required by the OSAA.
• Successfully meet the District’s background check process.
• Preferred, but not required: Possession of a valid TSPC license.
• Valid Oregon Driver’s License

Experience:

• Experience in, or understanding of sport to be coached. Must meet OSAA standards for coaching certificate. Knowledge of athletic conditioning and care/prevention of injuries.
• Must be a minimum of 22 years of age.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Possession of an earned baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university in physical education, or closely related areas.
• Bilingual proficiency and/or multicultural experience strongly preferred.
