Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of 150-200 prospects with planned gifts from identification to closing.
• Build and sustain relationships with current and prospective donors through visits, calls and written correspondence.
• Develop customized gift planning proposals and respond to donor inquiries about planned giving vehicles.
• Collaborate with the Director of Gift Planning, Major and Principal Gifts and Membership Officers to identify prospects.
• Conduct donor visits, presentations and educational seminars on estate and gift planning.
• Prepare tailored gift illustrations and proposals with internal/external experts.
• Track and manage prospects in the donor database with accurate reporting.

NRDC is seeking a Gift Planning Officer to work with the Development team in any of our U.S. based offices, with a preference for our NY or DC office.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Gift Planning, NRDC seeks a Gift Planning Officer to secure planned gifts by identifying and cultivating relationships with donors and professional advisors, educate constituents about charitable gift planning options, and work closely with development colleagues to secure deferred and complex gifts that align with donor intent and organizational priorities.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of 150-200 prospects with demonstrated capacity and interest, guiding relationships from identification through the successful closing of planned gifts.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with current and prospective gift planning donors through in-person visits, phone calls, and thoughtful written correspondence.
• Develop customized gift planning proposals and respond to donor inquiries regarding planned giving vehicles.
• Collaborate closely with the Director of Gift Planning, Major and Principle Gifts and Membership Gift Officers to identify planned giving prospects within their portfolios and support the planning and execution of donor cultivation events.
• Conduct donor visits, presentations, and educational seminars related to estate and gift planning.
• Prepare tailored gift illustrations and proposals in coordination with internal and external experts.
• Track and manage planned giving prospects and commitments in the donor database, maintaining accurate records and reports.
• Actively participate in team meetings and contribute to the development and execution of Gift Planning goals, strategies, and annual work plans.

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience

• A bachelor's degree is required.
• 4-7 years of previous planned giving experience or relevant professional experience.
• Experience with advocacy or environmental groups a plus.

• Strong writing skills and the ability to communicate in a regular, compelling manner with donors.
• Collaborative and inclusive approach to inter and intra departmental work.
• Professional demeanor when with NRDC donors and staff members.
• Ability to travel approximately 35% annually.
• Moves Management and major gift solicitation experience a plus.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of planned giving databases, Salesforce, PG Calc or other CRM platforms preferred.

Internal equity will be reviewed and considered to determine a final offer. For this position, the salary range is $95,000 to $115,000.

NRDC operates under a hybrid work model. Employees are required to come to the office 8 days per month.
