Job description

Major Responsibilities
  • Assist with patient care activities and related services under the supervision/delegation of the registered nurse and/or physician, including intraprocedural support. Assist physicians with accurate retrieval of specimens, preservation, labeling and transportation to lab.
  • Assist in initiating and/or collaborating with the team for all safety initiatives such as the timeout process, traceability of equipment, and reporting of safety events. Organize and prepare procedure rooms and equipment per physician specifications, checking and assembling appropriate instruments.
  • Perform high-level disinfection and reprocessing of equipment/scopes according to established standards.
  • Clean, calibrate, operate and perform preventative maintenance on equipment per manufacturer recommendations and infection‑control policies. Report and document equipment repairs.
  • Document procedures, images, videos and patient charges using endoscope and ultrasound information systems.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory for the unit, informing when supplies are needed, stocking supplies, and receiving ordered supplies. Perform clerical duties including answering phones, filing, data entry, scheduling and compiling patient records.
  • Perform various patient positioning and transport duties requiring lifting and pushing/pulling, using proper techniques.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age‑appropriate care, understanding principles of growth and development, assess patient status, and interpret information needed to meet the patient’s age‑specific needs as described in the department policies and procedures.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) must be obtained within 6 months unless the department leader determines otherwise.
Education Required
  • High School Graduate.
Experience Required
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in a nursing assistant, medical assistant or similar patient‑care position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders and twist frequently during shift.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist; lift up to 20 lbs. over head; carry up to 40 lbs. over a reasonable distance.
  • Push/pull with 30 lbs. of force; perform sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
  • Wear lead aprons with weight resting on shoulders.
  • Must have speech, hearing, sight for communication during procedures; fine‑motor skill coordination.
  • Must function in very limited space; procedure rooms are small with close proximity to other healthcare members and physicians.
  • May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood and body fluids; protective clothing such as gloves, gown, masks, eye shields, laser glasses, foot and hair covers must be worn as necessary.
  • Operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
