Job summary

UF Health Jacksonville is seeking a GI Lab Technician to assist gastroenterology clinicians with procedures and patient care in a busy hospital setting. The role includes handling and maintenance of endoscopic equipment and providing bedside support in ER and ICU units.

The position requires a High School Diploma or GED and BLS certification, with 1–2 years of related medical experience. Strong aseptic technique and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • 1–2 years of Surgical Tech, GI Tech, Medical Assistant, CNA, Patient Care Associate or similar experience preferred.
  • Certified Endoscope Reprocessor preferred.
  • Adult and geriatric patient care considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain endoscopes cleanings and preventive maintenance per policy.
  • Cross-train in operating room and maintain competencies.
  • Decontaminate and prepare endoscopic instruments (endoscopes, biopsy tools).
  • Assist with room turnover and GI supplies stocking per par level.
  • Ensure equipment readiness before conscious sedation (e.g., ERCP carts).
  • Operate C More system to generate exam reports and pathology slips if needed.
  • Assist timely transfer of patients to GI procedure room by 0800 and 1300.
  • Maintain GI and general medical supplies per par list; log updates.
  • Conduct product testing and document results when evaluating new equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management within scope.
