UI/UX Designer for NextGen Organizing/Mobilizing Movement Platform to End the Fascism and Stop the Ecocide

Paid/ Part-Time • Remote OK (US) • To Start Immediately.

WHO We're Looking For

We're seeking a medium or higher level UI/UX designer who is passionate about social- economic and political justice impact and wants their work to matter. Years of experience are a big plus, but as important are good design instincts that will resonate with our audi- ence, and a drive to help build tools that support grassroots organizing across America.

This is a part-time paid cofounder role (though we’d also love an intern) with a path to long term well paid employment if the project gains traction. If it does, it will strongly appeal to wealthy progressive donors, hence far higher pay. You'll work flexibly from anywhere in the US,CA, or UK, MX, or Germany, on a team that is small, mission-driven, and moving fast. We hope you’ll realize this work could become the proudest achievement of your life.

About Our Organization and The Mission

We are a scrappy nonprofit startup with a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, working to build a next-generation digital platform for civic organizing, mobilizing, and mutual aid. Our founder has launched four mission-driven startups — including one that won national awards, and he has raised nearly $2M for investigative documentaries and two tech startup ventures. Press clips from NYT, WAPO, LA Times, etc available re the founder’s early works.

Our platform will consist of several interconnected apps, the three most important and first launch (hopefully by early August) will be:

  • AdoptAnOrganizer (AAO): A progressive web app that will have several powerful advantages over GoFundMe, to help aspiring organizers quickly meet their basic needs — housing, transportation, food, etc — so they can quit unfulfilling jobs and dedicate themselves full-time to their favorite causes. If successful, this will be key to building an army of 1000 organizers critical to such urgent needs as protecting the November elections

  • MAMA (Mutual Aid for Mass Actions): (See BIT.LY/MAMAnow) A progressive web app that covers rent, mortgage, and health insurance for long-term strikers, enabling sustained nonviolent civic action able to shut down major pillars of power that support fascist regimes. This will be critical for Plan B: If the Nov. elections are stolen, our only option will be a Nat’l Nonviolent Strike & Uprising

  • WinWisely Innovative Ladder of Engagement (LOE): Already developed and proven simple innovative LOE able to increase resster recruitment figures exponentially for nonviolent resistance strategy based campaigns. (See demo at tinyUrl.com/GetCourageNowLOE

Role: All the usual responsibilities of a top UI/UX designer for a progressive web-app based platform given our unique mission and audience, and how different this is from a typical eCommerce or commercial service selling something.

Keep in mind that 1) you would be considered a cofounder with director title; and

2) we won't be able to get serious funding until we achieve proof of concept,

Requirements

Minimum 2 year fulltime UI/UX experience doing Apps

Excellent Communication Skills, Especially Being Responsive to msgs on signal, able to do short fixes within 48hrs of notice.

Major plus: evidence in your prior work of commitment to social, economic, healthcare and/or climate justice values.

A BIG plus if familiar with PayloadCMS and/or html/css coding

Tech Stack and UX skills

Besides figma and vercel mastery and other usual tech skills, you should have UX/UI skills peculiar to a moral mission driven rather than profit driven app: Your key audience is people suffering and angry or outraged at the fascist take over, and the accelerated destruction of our mother, Earth. For example, you will need to create a place and user journey that feels more like an opportunity for sanctuary, for learning organizing skills and from fellow aspiring organizers and mentors, for community, and fir a bridge to freedom, rather than your typical cold financial transaction app.

Familiarity with any of the following is a plus; we don't expect expertise in all:

  • Figma mastery, Vercel, and other prototyping/design tools.

  • Progressive Web App (PWA) design patterns Basic familiarity with React or front-end component libraries

  • Good communication skills especially with our senior programmer (who is Palestinian)

  • Big Pluses: You know a politically progressive owner of a UX testing company whom you could convince for the cause to give us a fantastic UX testing deal.

** Or you are familiar with PayloadCMS, OR you have an activist-hearted friend who is a content manager familiar with PayloadCM

Duration

  • Total engagement: 3–4 months minimum

  • Month 1: Approximately 10-15 hours/week (if you’re fast, just the first two weeks)

  • Months 2–4: Approximately 5-10 hours/week ( maybe fewer if using AI-assisted workflow)

Our MVP does not need to be highly scalable: we're targeting a few thousand initial users for AAO.

COMPENSATION

This is a paid contract position with performance-based compensation:

Pay: Negotiable but results based. We have $3,000 left for the designer to fix the remaining issues (which are approximately 10-20 for the MVP), though after upcoming UI/UX testing, which we hope will start by Oct 20, that number could go higher. Some issues might turn out to be ones only the programmers can fix, or a designer competent at using Claude for simple programming.

$2,000 additional bonus once we get 50 active ASPOs and 30 housing and/or angel donors, and similar or larger bonuses once we get 100 and more users or finding us devoted easily affordable social media talent able to bring in users and/or major large membership partners willing to include us under their jobs tabs.

FIRST RIGHT of Refusal for long-term well paid part-time paid employment if the platform gains traction, and therefore will be able to raise low to medium six figure funding, maybe even moe considering the potential of MAMA

(OUR WEBSITE IS IN DEVELOPMENT and needs updating; but do check out the reviews. Press clips are also available from NYT, WAPO, LA Times on our prior work)

OTHER RELEVANT NOTES:

URGENCY AND IMPORTANCE: If you have any doubts re how urgent and important these three apps will be for any realistic chance to stop Trump/MAGA from rigging and/or canceling any or all elections toss up Senate races, or failing that refusing to seat duly elected Reps and Senators, and in addition implementing a Reichstag-InsurrectionAct-Martial law strategy to solidify fascist control of America, read the research.
