Job summary

All's Well Healthcare partners with the California DDS to offer a 3-month paid shadow training program for Direct Service Professional Interns. You will shadow staff under a DSP mentor for up to 30 hours weekly, gaining hands-on experience supporting adults with developmental and intellectual needs.

Duties vary but include empowering clients, aiding communication, daily living skills, community participation, and progress documentation.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Must have a High School Diploma (or equivalent) or a Certificate of Completion.
• Must have a CA Driver's License & personal vehicle.
• Must pass a background check and other required health screenings.

Job description

All's Well Healthcare has partnered with the State of California's Department of Developmental Services (DDS) to launch a statewide, paid 3-month shadow training program. This initiative matches candidates with organizations that support adults with special needs. Participants shadow staff to gain firsthand experience, and if there's a mutual fit, they may be offered permanent employment—sometimes as early as week three, mimicking a "working interview."

As a Direct Service Professional (DSP) Intern, you’ll work under the supervision of an experienced DSP mentor for up to three months and 30 hours per week. This internship gives you hands‑on experience where you will shadow train and learn how to support individuals with diverse developmental and or intellectual needs in living more independent and living fulfilling lives.

Your duties will vary based on each person’s needs and goals, but may include:

• Helping individuals feel empowered and respected
• Supporting communication and social interaction
• Assisting with daily living skills (e.g. cooking, hygiene, transportation)
• Encouraging and supporting participation in community activities
• Facilitating access to services and resources
• Supporting education, job readiness, and career goals
• Promoting health and wellness
• Advocating for individual rights and inclusion
• Helping build and maintain meaningful relationships
• Documenting services and progress
• Ensuring the person remains at the center of all decision-making

PAY: $18.47-$21 per hour. Weekly pay + incentives offered.

SCHEDULE: Monday-Sunday; schedules vary by program and client needs.

Available Shifts:

• Day Services: Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-2:30 PM
• Residential AM: 6:00 AM-2:00 PM
• Residential PM: 2:00 PM-10:00 PM

Specific days and hours may vary based on client availability and service needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

A DSP Intern may work indoors or outdoors and may perform tasks which involve frequent sitting, standing, writing, or performing repetitive motions. On occasion a DSP may perform tasks that involve, but are not limited to bending, twisting, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, standing, reaching, walking, and lifting of 25 lbs.
