Job summary

MedElite, a national leader in long-term and skilled nursing eye care, seeks an Optometric Technician to assist optometrists with eye exams for residents in skilled nursing and long-term care facilities.

You will perform preliminary testing, document results, and support eyeglass fittings while traveling to facilities as needed. The role emphasizes geriatric patient care, safety, and accurate records in a team-driven environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Optometric/Ophthalmic Technician training preferred.
• Certification (e.g., CPO, ABO) preferred but not required.
• Prior experience in optometry/ophthalmology strongly preferred.
• Experience in skilled nursing or long-term care settings a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist optometrists with comprehensive eye exams and vision testing.
• Perform preliminary testing (visual acuity, IOP, autorefractor).
• Prepare patients for examinations and ensure comfort.
• Administer basic diagnostic tests (visual field testing, retinal imaging).
• Document patient history, test results, and clinical findings.
• Maintain and clean ophthalmic equipment per safety standards.
• Support eyeglass fittings, adjustments, and patient education.
• Collaborate with optometrists, advanced practice providers, and facility staff.
• Travel to skilled nursing and long-term care facilities as assigned.
