Job summary

South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a mid-level Geotechnical Engineer to work in the PeeDee region, focusing on foundation design for bridges and road structures. You will prepare technical reports, analyze pile driving systems, and review consultant geotechnical work.

The role involves advanced design and analysis of foundations, embankments, slopes, and retaining structures, with opportunities to develop liquefaction analyses and bid item calculations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and one (1) year of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
• A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.

Responsibilities

• Perform mid-level engineering work in Geotechnical Engineering including design and analysis of foundations for bridges, roadway embankments and highway structures.
• Prepare Geotechnical reports and analyze pile driving systems while reviewing consultant reports for geotechnical considerations.
• Prepare preliminary geotechnical reports and soil boring/laboratory testing requests.
• Perform advanced design and analysis of bridge foundations, embankments, slopes and retaining structures.
• Develop Design Response Curves and perform basic preliminary liquefaction analyses.
• Calculate geotechnical bid items for bridge and road projects and evaluate geotechnical construction submittals.
• May require travel and work outside normal hours or emergencies.
