Job summary

ESP Associates, Inc. is seeking a dynamic Geotechnical Group Manager to lead and grow our Raleigh, NC geotechnical/testing/inspection group.

You will oversee a team of PMs, senior engineers, technicians, and support staff, ensuring profitability, client engagement, and high-quality deliverables. The role requires a PE license, 10+ years in geotechnical fields, and strong leadership to expand opportunities in eastern North Carolina.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering or related field
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration required; reciprocity within NC within 6 months if licensed elsewhere
• Minimum 10 years of relevant Geotechnical Engineering, Materials Testing, or Special Inspections experience
• Strong leadership, organization, and attention to detail; excellent verbal/written communication
• Demonstrates ability to manage client relationships and delegate effectively
• Experience in profit & loss responsibility and business development

Responsibilities

• Develop and grow the Raleigh geotechnical group and expand client base in eastern NC
• Lead the team to profitability and growth targets and monitor department P&L
• Oversee department performance and revenue recognition; guide contracts and negotiations with counsel
• Manage client relationships, communications, and satisfaction
• Assist with marketing, networking, and professional development activities
• Ensure timely, high-quality technical deliverables and reports
• Review proposals and technical reports; serve as technical leader when needed
• Mentor staff and technicians; collaborate with other ESP disciplines
• Support project delivery and adjust priorities across multiple clients

ESP Associates, Inc. is seeking a dynamic, results-oriented Geotechnical Engineering and/or Testing/Inspection professional to lead and grow an established group within the Raleigh, NC market. The position will include oversight, direction, and growth of a team of project managers, senior technical engineers, technicians/inspectors, and support staff. Along with leadership of the team, this individual will be responsible for the overall performance of the department (P&L), client interaction, and some technical review.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and foster client relationships to grow ESP’s presence in Raleigh and the eastern NC region
• Lead the practice to set and achieve profitability and growth goals
• Take ownership of the department’s overall performance (P&L)
• Lead invoicing and revenue recognition for the department
• Review and have familiarity with project contracts and engage in contract negotiations, as necessary, with assistance from counsel
• Effectively manage client base, interaction, and satisfaction
• Business development and assistance with marketing of clients including networking and active participation in professional development opportunities
• Ensure quality service, consulting, and deliverables in a timely and efficient manner
• Prepare and/or review proposals and technical reports
• Serve as a technical leader, as necessary
• Train and mentor Staff and Technicians
• Collaborate with and support other ESP disciplines and service lines in the Raleigh market

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or a related discipline
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required. If registered in other states than North Carolina, individual must have the ability to obtain reciprocity in NC within 6 months
• Must have at least 10 years of relevant experience in Geotechnical Engineering, Materials Testing and/or Special Inspections
• Displays strong technical skills in either Geotechnical Engineering or Testing/Inspection
• Results-oriented individual with superior skills in organization, planning and attention to detail
• Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Displays strong leadership and personnel management skills
• Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills that will allow you to effectively and professionally interact with clients, approval authorities, governmental officials and the public.
• Familiarity and understanding of risk management and loss prevention.
• Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment with deadlines and ability to adjust to project priorities and demands of multiple clients.
• Intermediate to advanced computer skills (MS Office, Teams, SharePoint and relevant technical software required), including the ability to learn various types of company / client software
• Must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy.
