Job summary

MC Squared, located in Columbia, SC, seeks a Geotechnical Staff Engineer to join our expanding team. You will execute geotechnical tasks, prepare reports, and coordinate field exploration and laboratory services for transportation, building, and infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities include developing proposals, ensuring QA/QC, and communicating findings to project managers and clients. A BS in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering with EIT is required; MS/PhD preferred, and growth opportunities

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering is required; MS or PhD preferred.
  • Passed the EIT exam is required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Demonstrate independent analysis, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • High personal safety awareness and willingness to learn quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Execute geotechnical project assignments including analysis, report preparation, field exploration and lab services.
  • Develop project-level reports and proposals.
  • Prepare field packets before field activities.
  • Perform field and laboratory sampling and testing.
  • Oversee geotechnical testing during design and construction and respond to client inquiries.

We are growing and winning new projects. We have an opportunity for a Staff Engineer to come and grow with us.

Job Responsibilities & Requirements:

  • Execute Geotechnical project assignments including engineering analysis, report preparation, field exploration and laboratory services.
  • Provide project-level development of reports and proposals.
  • Prepare the "field packet" before initiating any field activities on projects.
  • Field and laboratory sampling and testing.
  • Oversight and testing on geotechnical projects during design and construction and support Project Managers with responding to customers’ inquiries concerning testing progress and reporting.
  • Track your own progress within each task of a project and provide timely updates to Project Managers, and propose corrective actions if needed.
  • Follow department policies and procedures, and support achieving our goals and objectives.
  • Ensure tests are carried out in accordance with relevant standard test methods and according to agreed customers’ requirements.
  • Analyze and review field and lab data to ensure accuracy and to meet Company quality standards.
  • Conduct geotechnical evaluations as required and ensure compliance with applicable design codes & manuals.
  • Prepare GDOT and non-GDOT geotechnical reports.
  • Ensure safety policies are followed and demonstrate a safe attitude.
  • Review your own work to ensure adherence with the Department QA/QC procedures.
  • While executing project tasks, develop an understanding of all tasks common to most projects as this is fundamental for career development.

Education and Related Requirements:

  • B.S. degree (M.S. degree or Ph.D. is preferred) in Geotechnical Engineer or Civil Engineering.
  • Successfully passed the E.I.T. exam.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate performance of independent analysis as well as strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Strong personal safety awareness
  • Willingness to learn at a fast-pace and grow your career
