Intertek Building & Construction in Tukwila, Washington, seeks a Geotechnical Special Inspector to join our Professional Services Industries team. The role involves field testing, observations, and inspection duties under general supervision, using drawings, specs, and site diagrams to ensure quality control on transportation and heavy civil projects.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of geotechnical inspection experience, a valid license, and strong English communication.

Qualifications

• 5+ years geotechnical inspection, QA and QC experience on heavy civil projects.
• Valid driver’s license with reliable driving record.
• Basic math, calculator and computer skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and fluency in English.
• Ability to read plans and specifications.
• Ability to lift 30–50 pounds frequently and over 50 with assistance.
• Ability to work off shifts and overtime.
• Ability to walk/stand for long periods.
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather.

Salary & Benefits

The base wage for this position is $35–$50/HR. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k) with company match, generous vacation/sick time, tuition reimbursement, and more.

What you’ll do

• Perform a variety of testing, project‑specific observations, and inspection duties under general supervision
• Utilize drawings, specifications, and diagrams
• Use specific methods to observe site activities and perform tasks
• Read and interpret plans and specifications
• Maintain and calibrate standard equipment
• Make detailed observations and give the interpretation of results
• Train/supervise and perform complex assignments and work tasks
• Attend project meetings alone without supervision
• Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

• 5+ years relevant geotechnical inspection, quality assurance and quality control experience on transportation/heavy civil projects
• Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record
• Basic Math, calculator, and computer skills
• Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and fluency in English
• Ability to read plans and specifications
• Ability to work off shifts and overtime
• Computer skills, especially familiarity with MS Office applications
• Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently, occasionally over 50 pounds with assistance
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication
• Ability to kneel, squat, and climb occasionally
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
• Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (hot and cold)

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Certifications such as ICC, ACI, Nuclear Gauge, WABO, WAQTC, and/or CWI
