Job summary

Terracon is growing and seeking to hire a Geotechnical Project Engineer in our Tampa office. This role focuses on a wide range of geotechnical engineering projects including commercial, transportation, energy, and federal projects.

The successful candidate will need at least five years of professional experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. PE registration is a must, along with strong project management and quality control skills. The position includes various responsibilities from preparing proposals to supervising project team members.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration is mandatory.

General Responsibilities

Terracon is growing and seeking to hire a Geotechnical Project Engineer in our Tampa office. This role involves working on a wide range of geotechnical engineering projects, including commercial, transportation, energy, and federal projects throughout the region. The successful candidate will have at least five years of professional experience on projects of varying size and complexity and will be able to review and understand project design documents and construction plans & specifications. They will also develop work plans and cost estimates for geotechnical site investigations and engineering consultation.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre‑task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
• Provide and lead continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor and promote quality standards and practices.
• Provide consistent quality standards on project and proposal delivery.
• Act as a fully competent engineering professional with responsibility for managing detailed phases of projects with moderate size and complexity.
• Independently perform a variety of projects or selected segments of larger projects.
• Plan, schedule, conduct, and/or coordinate detailed phases of assigned project work.
• Work closely with senior‑level project managers to gain additional project management experience for more complex and larger projects.
• Make design, engineering and construction recommendations, adaptations and modifications.
• Prepare proposals and reports for small and large projects of varying complexity.
• Perform quality control review of proposals written by others.
• Evaluate complex laboratory and field data for inclusion in reports.
• Serve as a technical adviser to junior‑level project team members.
• Interact directly with client and project team on developing scope of services, communicating project progress and findings and recommendations.
• Write and prepare routine and complex engineering reports detailing services provided, findings, and recommendations.
• Participate in marketing, sales and business development.
• Supervise graduate, field and project engineering staff.
• Work under the supervision of a Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer.
• Begin documented mentoring and application process for Terracon Authorized Project Reviewer certification.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
