Qualifications

With our experts, professional skilled staff, and diverse experience, we offer reliable services in an integrated, efficient, and cost-effective service to clients in the public and private sectors. Our services include Geotechnical Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory Materials Testing, Engineering Geology, and Environmental Engineering.

We are currently looking for a Geotechnical Engineering Manager who could help our team to grow.

Salary Range

$150,000 - $190,000 annually

About the Job

As a Geotechnical Engineering Manager, you will provide technical and operational leadership for a variety of geotechnical engineering projects. You will manage engineers and technical staff, oversee daily operations, and provide guidance on geotechnical and geological matters throughout the project lifecycle. The successful candidate will include overseeing geotechnical investigations, engineering analyses, design recommendations, QA/QC practices, and project reporting. Manage project budgets, staffing, utilization, invoicing, and profitability while supporting business development and maintaining strong relationships with clients, agencies, engineers, architects, and contractors. Mentor junior staff, promote high technical standards, and ensure projects are delivered efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with applicable requirements.

Primary Job Duties
  • Manage a team of engineers and technical staff, including field and lab technicians
  • Oversee the daily operations of the company
  • Provide technical guidance on geological and geotechnical related issues throughout the project lifecycle
  • Full PNL responsibility for meeting set budget(s) by the company, including staffing strategy by coordinating and working with our in-house recruiter for hiring, compensation decisions, utilization, invoicing, contract negotiations and profitability
  • Direct, enforce and make any necessary changes to the company QA/QC practices/policies in the lab and in the field during the construction for our provided services
  • Direct subsurface geotechnical investigations, geotechnical design recommendations, seismic and liquefaction evaluations, slope analysis and stabilization
  • Serve as the geotechnical-of-record for projects under DSA (schools), HCAI (hospitals), and other projects as required
  • Business development for expanding the business into other aspects of geotechnical engineering that are currently not or with limited volume of work within our services such as in infrastructure, hospitals, schools, and commercial structures.
  • Develop and maintain a strong relationship with our current clients, local state and federal agencies, project structural engineers, project architects and contractors
  • Produce clear, concise, but with very limited liability and defensible geotechnical reports and agency response documents
  • Mentor junior engineering and technical staff for delivering high technical standards, schedule performance and risk management.
  • Other job duties as assigned by the Operations Manager or his designee
Job Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills)
  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering.
  • A professional license in the geotechnical engineering field is required, preferably a licensed Geotechnical Engineer (GE) in the state of California.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in the geotechnical or geological field
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and a sound technical background in soil and rock mechanics
  • Attention to detail, dedication to quality and accuracy
  • Experience with various commercial geotechnical software
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Working knowledge of standard business software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical and geological engineering principles and practices
  • Knowledge with the local and statewide such as the California Building Code, Los Angeles Building, California Residential Code
  • Proficiency in construction inspection and management
  • Ability to analyze data and interpret results
  • Proficient in using software and other engineering tools related to the discipline.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and construction drawings
Working Conditions and Environment

This position will require general supervision and will have to use independent judgment within established guidelines. Generally, uses advanced knowledge to analyze, interpret, or make deductions from varying facts or circumstances. Will need the ability to establish rapport quickly with others working on the same project and be able to promote a positive team environment. Working knowledge of dealing with a diverse population while using tact, diplomacy, and respect.
