Job Overview

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer 1 to support the Power Generation Business Sector on projects involving power generation and infrastructure, with potential regional client work. The role is based in one of GAI's Pittsburgh area offices, or other listed locations, and may be performed remotely or in a hybrid setting.

Responsibilities
  • Perform geotechnical engineering assignments, including investigations and designs for foundations, transmission lines, buildings, bridges, retaining walls, natural gas pipelines, compressor stations, residual waste landfills, and impoundments.
  • Prepare designs for rock/soil slope stability, cut slope and fill embankment design, landslide stabilization, geotechnical field instrumentation, soil reinforcement/ground improvement, sheet pile/retaining walls, shallow and deep foundations.
  • Develop subsurface investigations, monitoring programs, and coordinate geologic site characterization.
  • Install geotechnical field instrumentation and select samples for laboratory testing.
  • Prepare proposals, budgets, schedules, calculations, specifications, and reports.
  • Support construction monitoring and inspection, including test boring monitoring, site reconnaissance, and interpretation of construction drawings.
  • Conduct site inspections at power facilities; prepare boring logs and geologic cross sections.
  • Travel for fieldwork as needed.
  • Assist with basic civil site design tasks such as grading, erosion control, stormwater management, drainage, utility relocation, construction drawings, and cost estimates.
Qualifications
  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering.
  • Minimum 4+ years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
Physical Requirements

Candidate will traverse steep terrain and may need to carry up to 50 lbs.
