Job summary

OceanaGold Corporation is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer for the Haile gold mine in the USA. You will assess ground conditions, design support systems, and implement measures to mitigate geotechnical risks across open pit and underground operations.

Responsibilities include slope stability analyses, coordinating with planning and operations, and maintaining ground control plans while ensuring regulatory compliance and safety standards are met. A PE license is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Mine Engineering, Geology or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering within the mining industry (Open Pit and/or Underground).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or P.Eng would be considered an asset.
  • Proficient in geotechnical analysis software and mine engineering tools such as RocScience Suite, Geoslope, Itasca FLAC, Phase 2, Deswik, and Vulcan.
  • Experience with open-pit radar and underground monitoring systems.
  • Ability to log core for geotechnical properties (RMR, Q’, etc).
  • Strong project management skills with ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.

  • Perform slope stability analyses and modelling for open pit and underground mining.

  • Ensure ground control audits and QA programs are carried out and documented.
  • Own the site Ground Control Management Plan.
  • Prepare geotechnical reports and documentation for regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain numerical stress models.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and innovations in geotechnical engineering.

Job Description

As aGeotechnical Engineer, you will play acrucial role in ensuring the stability and safety of mining operations here at the Haile gold mine. Your expertise in geotechnical engineering will be instrumental in assessing ground conditions, designing support systems, and implementing measures to mitigate geotechnical risks. This role requires astrong background in geotechnical analysis, project management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct geotechnical assessments and site characterizations to identify potentialrisks.
  • Design and implement ground support systems to ensure the stability of miningstructures.
  • Perform slope stability analyses, modelling, and recommend appropriate designs for both open pit and underground mining.
  • Implementing ground support design standards for underground mine development and rehabilitation
  • Collaborate with planning, operations, and other stakeholders to optimize miningmethods.
  • Ensuring ground control audits and quality assurance programs are carried out regularly anddocumented.
  • Ownership of the site Ground Control ManagementPlan
  • Prepare geotechnical reports, analyses, and documentation for regulatorycompliance.
  • Maintain numerical stressmodels
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements, and innovations in geotechnical engineering.
