Job summary

HDR is seeking a Geotechnical EIT in Billings, MT. You will develop geotechnical analyses for flood walls, levees, bridges and pumping stations, and assist in preparing technical memos and reports.

The role includes field investigations, monitoring, and collaboration with senior engineers. You will work within HDR's employee-owned culture, leveraging tools like ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Civil3D and geotechnical software.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
  • EIT certificate is required.
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering with geotechnical focus preferred.
  • Experience with ArcGIS and/or AutoCAD and Civil3D is preferred.
  • Experience with Montana geology is advantageous.
  • Ability to travel for moderate durations outside Montana.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with the listed geotechnical software is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Develop geotechnical engineering calculations for flood walls, levees, dam embankments, and related projects.
  • Conduct analyses to develop design options and support geotechnical reports.
  • Perform routine assignments using standard techniques and procedures.
  • Conduct slope stability, seepage, settlement, and other soil/rock analyses.
  • Assist field work including construction observations and site reconnaissance.
  • Provide guidance to clerical and technical personnel as needed.

In the role of Geotechnical EIT, we'll count on you to:
  • Develop geotechnical engineering calculations and perform analyses in support of designs, plans, and specifications, for flood walls, levees, dam embankments, bank protection, hydraulic structures, bridges, and pumping station projects.
  • Conduct analyses to develop design options or recommendations, and assist in the preparation of technical documents such as technical memoranda and geotechnical reports.
  • Perform routine engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures.
  • Conduct slope stability, seepage, settlement, and other soil/rock analyses associated with geotechnical engineering studies.
  • Have familiarity with geotechnical earthquake engineering concepts such as seismic hazard, seismic site response, and liquefaction.
  • Complete projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables.
  • Perform field work consisting of construction observations, field investigations, and site reconnaissance.
  • Work independently on small projects, or assist more-senior engineers on larger projects.
  • Give direction to clerical and technical personnel, as needed.
  • Perform field investigations including logging soil and rock borings, instrumentation installation, Cone Penetration Test observations, packer testing, geophysical survey, and televiewer data collection.
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical engineering focus
  • Experience with ArcGIS and/or Autodesk AutoCAD and Civil3D.
  • Experience with local geology (Montana)
  • The candidate should be capable of working independently and efficiently under the general supervision of senior-level Geotechnical Engineers.
  • Ability to travel for moderate durations outside of the Montana region.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with the following software: gINT, GeoStudio (SLOPE/W, SEEP/W), Ensoft pile software (LPILE, APILE, SHAFT, GROUP), Settle3, CLiq, CPeT-IT
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
  • Experience with MS Office, GIS, and CADD, as appropriate
