Job summary

HDR is seeking a Geotechnical Designer/EI in Columbia, SC to perform geotechnical analyses and design for infrastructure projects, under the guidance of a licensed PE. The role involves reviewing data, preparing reports, and coordinating with project managers to meet client goals.

Travel to sites is required, and candidates should have a Bachelor's in Engineering, MS Office skills, and preference for HDR’s employee-owned culture. Master’s in Geotechnical Engineering and EIT are a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
• Experience with MS Office and software applications.
• Active participant in HDR’s employee-owned culture.
• Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
• EIT certificate preferred; those without EIT may be assigned to a Design Coordinator path for progression.
• Experience with CAD software (MicroStation) preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Local candidates preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical analyses to develop design options or recommendations, and assist in the preparation of cost estimates, plans and specifications.
• Oversee geotechnical subsurface characterization programs and coordinate field exploration, up to 40% travel.
• Set up field exploration programs and coordinate with subcontractors.
• Prepare drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
• Coordinate with project managers to implement measures to meet project goals.
• Review boring logs, laboratory data, and design plans for geotechnical tasks such as slope stability, piles and drilled shafts.
• Be capable of working independently or in a team environment assisting senior geotechnical staff.
