  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline plus 8 years’ experience; 9 years with no degree.

General Responsibilities

Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? Terracon is growing and hiring a Geotechnical Department Manager in our Midland, TX office! Our Midland office works on exciting projects including commercial, education, hospital, slope stability, deep foundation design and various other project types requiring geotechnical services. This position is for a senior professional engineer (P.E.) who will be responsible for managing and leading a group of geotechnical engineers, as well as planning, scheduling and coordinating Geotechnical specific work, and overseeing a team of professional engineers, geologists, and engineering technicians for projects varying in size and complexity. The successful candidate will be experienced in all phases of geotechnical and construction management efforts in addition to previous leadership experience and business development. This position does require numerous business development efforts including client development meetings, proposals, reports to support existing clients and project portfolios that serve to expand our service offerings. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience supporting large, complex, multi-discipline projects throughout West Texas, particularly within the renewable energy (wind and solar), oil and gas, data center, and industrial development markets. This experience should include leading geotechnical investigations and engineering services for projects with multiple stakeholders, aggressive schedules, and significant construction budgets. Candidates should be comfortable collaborating with civil, structural, environmental, construction materials testing, and facilities engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions that address site characterization, foundation design, earthwork considerations, and construction risk management. Experience managing key client relationships and serving as a trusted technical advisor on regional energy, infrastructure, and mission-critical facility projects is highly desired. Essential Roles And Responsibilities
  • Manage and lead a department of geotechnical engineers and continue to make the department profitable and inspire growth.
  • Apply sound engineering principles and be able to communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams.
  • May be responsible for resource management, project scheduling, budgets and forecasts, and working with external vendors, subcontractors or contractors.
  • Conducting client development activities and work for the Midland area.
  • Provide excellent level of customer service.
  • Design, communicate, and implement a project plan for completing the project.
  • Ability to develop written proposals to clients for both small and large projects.
  • Experienced in evaluating, and synthesizing complex laboratory and field data, and assembly in written reports.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects for incident and injury free operations.
  • Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Lead technical training and make informed decisions based upon state‑of‑the‑art technology issues.
  • Provide leadership of marketing, sales and business development.
  • Supervise less experienced engineers or technical support personnel on projects.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practiced by the Firm including Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology and 8 years’ practice experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 9 years’ related experience.
  • A valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters Degree & Certification or licensure in field of expertise.
