Job summary

Pueblo of Sandia seeks a knowledgeable Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC) to lead drone mapping and GIS data workflows. You will plan flights, monitor weather, manage mission risk, and collect data for GIS layers across departments and tribal initiatives.

You will process imagery into orthomosaics and 3D models, maintain UAS hardware and flight logs, and collaborate with the GIS team on maps, portals, and data models. Strong knowledge of GIS and photogrammetry is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geography, GIS, Geospatial Science or related field.
  • 500+ UAS flight hours professional drone pilot experience.
  • There are no substitutions for the Professional Drone pilot minimum flight hour requirements.
  • Experience with UAS flight planning applications and data analysis tools.

Responsibilities

  • RPIC for UAS operations, ensuring flights comply with FAA Part 107 and tribal policies.
  • Develops and executes flight plans, including airspace research, weather monitoring, and mission risk assessments.
  • Collects GPS and UAS data in the field, and performs office-based processing to create, update, and edit GIS data layers.
  • Post-processes aerial imagery to produce orthomosaics, 3D models, and digital elevation datasets.
  • Maintains the UAS fleet and related hardware, including maintenance, firmware updates, and flight logs.
  • Assist GIS Specialist and GIS Manager in education events and maps.
  • Create metadata and reports to ensure data integrity and traceability.
  • Support maintenance and updates for Pueblo’s GAMS and Portal for ArcGIS layers.
