Job summary

The University of Georgia invites applications for the Georgia 4-H Camp Counselor role. Based at a 4-H facility across the state, counselors create a safe, fun outdoor learning environment and coordinate activities with Extension staff.

You will lead classes and activities, supervise waterfront recreation as a lifeguard, organize entertainment for campers, participate in group events, and assist with grounds maintenance and canteen sales.

Qualifications

• American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
• CPR certification and AED certification, or willingness to obtain.

Position Summary

This job is a Camp Counselor in the Georgia 4‑H Summer camping program, located at one of five 4‑H Facilities across the state. Counselors are expected to create a safe and fun environment for campers to participate in experiential learning and recreational opportunities, primarily in an outdoor, natural setting. Counselors also plan and produce entertainment opportunities for campers and work to coordinate these activities with UGA Cooperative Extension Staff and other Center staff.

Responsibilities

• Independently lead classes and activities, sports and recreation opportunities, lifeguard for waterfront activities. (55%)
• Provide leadership and participate in large group recreation events. (15%)
• Produce and provide entertainment for large groups. (10%)
• Participate in meetings and trainings; kitchen patrol, clean‑up of grounds and facilities, or other light maintenance duties. (15%)
• Assist with sales in the canteen. (5%)

Qualifications

Physical Demands

This is a highly rigorous position with physical activities including daily walking of three to four miles. The position is mostly outdoors in the extreme heat of June and July for extended periods of time.
