Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory seeks one or two Postdoctoral Research Associates to conduct integrated experimental and computational research in geomechanics, subsurface fluid flow, and well integrity for next-generation geothermal systems. The role combines high-temperature/high-pressure experiments up to 500 °C and 140 MPa with Abaqus-based modeling, Python scripting, and data analysis.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in geoscience, geophysics, materials science, applied physics, computational mechanics, or related field with geomechanics/porous-media research.
• Experience in experimental geomechanics or subsurface fluid-flow experiments, or finite-element/computational mechanics.
• Experience in quantitative data analysis and scientific programming; instrumentation and model development.
• Peer-reviewed publications with strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct integrated experimental and computational research in geomechanics and subsurface flow.
• Develop high-temperature/high-pressure experiments and analyze resulting data to identify coupled processes.
• Develop and apply finite-element/multiphysics models using Abaqus and Python; collaborate across institutions.
