Job summary

Ed Holmes & Associates Land Surveyors, PA is seeking an experienced Geomatics Survey Crew Chief or Field Technician to support projects throughout Asheville and Western North Carolina. This full-time role requires prior land surveying/geomatics field experience and a willingness to work primarily in the Asheville region.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading a survey crew, performing field surveys independently, and familiarity with GNSS/GPS, robotic total stations, and current field

Job description

Geomatics Survey Crew Chief / Field Technician – NC

• Seeking an full-time experienced Geomatics Survey Crew Chief or Field Technician or to support projects throughout Asheville and Western North Carolina.
• Must have prior land surveying / geomatics field experience; this is not intended to be an entry-level position.
• Preference for candidates currently located in, or willing to work primarily throughout, Asheville and the Western North Carolina region.
• Experience independently performing field surveying work or leading a survey crew is strongly preferred.

Desired Experience

• Boundary and property surveys
• Topographic and existing-conditions surveys
• ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys
• Construction staking and layout
• Right-of-way and easement surveys
• Control surveys and establishing project control
• GPS/GNSS and robotic total station data collection
• Collection of accurate field data for preparation of survey plats and mapping
• Locating property corners, monuments, utilities, improvements, and other physical features
• Reading construction plans, plats, deeds, and survey documents
• Maintaining organized field notes, photographs, files, and survey data

Preferred Qualifications

• Several years of progressive surveying/geomatics field experience
• Previous experience as a Crew Chief, Party Chief, Senior Field Technician, or experienced Survey Technician
• Ability to work independently in the field and make sound field decisions
• Ability to lead and train junior field personnel when assigned
• Experience with modern GNSS/GPS receivers, robotic total stations, data collectors, and digital field workflows
• Carlson equipment/software experience is a plus
• Familiarity with North Carolina surveying practices and Western North Carolina terrain is strongly preferred
• Comfortable working on both developed and undeveloped sites, including mountainous and wooded terrain
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites throughout Western North Carolina
• Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate effectively with Project Managers and office staff
