Job summary

VHB invites applications for a Geomatics Summer Intern - Summer 2027 in the Richmond area. The intern will assist the Geomatics team with field data collection and CAD file preparation, working alongside experienced professionals and other specialists to learn the tools and methods used on survey projects.

You will gain practical experience in hydrographic and topographic data collection, CAD drafting, data research, and map preparation while contributing to crane rail surveys, construction

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma.
• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field).

Responsibilities

• Support the field crew in collecting hydrographic and topographic data.
• Gain exposure to conventional survey methods.
• Support the crew in performing crane rail surveys.
• Perform construction layout.
• Assist with office tasks including, but not limited to CAD drafting, data download, deed and map research, and filing.
• Maintain survey equipment and initiate repairs when necessary.
• Remain current on surveying practices, guidelines, and best practices; attend internal training to expand knowledge and skills; and
• Perform other duties as requested.

Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking a Geomatics Summer Intern to join its collaborative I-64 Geomatics team. This individual will provide support to the Geomatics team in the collection of field data and information related to the preparation of survey maps and CAD files. In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain exposure to a variety of progressive technologies as you work directly with an experienced and dynamic team of geomatics professionals and interact with technical specialists in other disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Support the field crew in collecting hydrographic and topographic data;
• Gain exposure to conventional survey methods;
• Support the crew in performing crane rail surveys;
• Perform construction layout;
• Assist with office tasks including, but not limited to CAD drafting, data download, deed and map research, and filing;

Qualifications

The hourly pay range for this position, located in Virginia, is $19 to $30. The actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted hourly range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.
