Job summary

Kinross Gold Corporation offers a summer internship for a geology student to gain hands-on experience in the mining industry while supporting the geologic staff.

Housing will be provided for the duration of the internship, with responsibilities including pit mapping, ore control, field mapping, geochemical sampling and drill rig sampling.

You will assist senior staff, perform sample preparation and storage, maintain safety standards, and contribute to special projects and reporting.

Qualifications

• Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
• General understanding of mining operations, milling and maintenance operations.
• Working knowledge of PC software (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation).
• Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact with all levels of employees and management.
• Ability to work independently and as part of the management team.
• Strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills.
• Minimum of 2 years towards geology or related Bachelor’s degree; 0–2 years geology experience preferred.
• Must be 18+ and authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
• Requires valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Assists the staff geologist in pit mapping and ore control.
• Assists the exploration geologist in field mapping and geochemical sampling.
• Assists staff geologist in slope monitoring and pit dewatering projects.
• Performs drill rig sampling and drill monitoring in development and exploration drilling.
• Assists staff geologist on special projects (blasted muck movement, pit water chemistry, etc.).
• Performs sample preparation, cataloging, and storage tasks.
• Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
• Compliance with all company policies and procedures including safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.
• Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.
• Exercising discretion and judgment in job performance.
• Works without risk or harm to self and others.

Job description

The position is meant to provide a college student studying geology practical work experience in the mining industry while assisting the geologic staff in routine tasks and in the completion of special projects while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values. Housing will be provided for the duration of the summer internship.

Essential Functions
