Job summary

Oneida ESC Group's Sustainment & Restoration Services (SRS) seeks a Geologist, Engineer, or Environmental Scientist at junior to mid level for our Walnut Creek, CA office. You will work both in the field and in the office to support environmental remediation projects across California and beyond, with an in-person role and periodic remote work.

The role emphasizes planning, sampling, regulatory compliance, and data interpretation, with collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Engineering, or related Environmental Science with 3-5 years field sampling, or Master’s with 1-3 years field sampling.
  • Ability to access DoD project sites (US citizen, pass federal background check).
  • Valid driver’s license with good record and ability to travel regularly.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with CWA, NPDES, MSGP, MS4 regulatory compliance.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; able to interact with team, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently and in a team.
  • High standard of quality; positive, flexible professional attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare project planning documents (work plans, QC plans, HSP, sampling and analysis plans).
  • Understand permits and plans for task execution.
  • Conduct fieldwork preparation (subcontracts, materials, equipment, scheduling).
  • Support environmental compliance in wastewater, storm water, groundwater, and solid waste through documentation and analysis.
  • Compile and interpret data; author technical memorandums and reports; respond to comments.
  • Work in a team to ensure quality project execution.
  • Assist the Technical Lead toward project goals and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Comply with project planning documents in the field.
  • Perform soil, groundwater, sediment, wastewater, and storm water sampling per permits.
  • Conduct routine facility inspections and reporting.
  • Complete required field documentation.
  • Coordinate with analytical lab for bottles and sample delivery.
  • Think critically and troubleshoot field issues.

Job description

Sustainment & Restoration Services (SRS) is a Native American, tribally-owned small business. We are a full-service, multi-discipline environmental, engineering, construction support, munitions response, and specialized professional services company wholly-owned by the Oneida Nation as a subsidiary under Oneida ESC Group.

Serving the federal market and civilian agencies, including US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), US Department of Defense, US Air Force, US Navy and Marine Corps, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), US Fish and Wildlife Service, and state and local customers. We collaborate with our customers to achieve long-term environmental stewardship goals with reduced life-cycle program costs.

SRS has an immediate opening for a Geologist, Engineer, or Environmental Scientist - Junior to Mid Level based in our Walnut Creek office. The successful candidate will work both in the field and the office to support various environmental remediation projects at various locations in CA and beyond. This will be an in-person position with some flexibility to work from home periodically.

Key Responsibilities - Office:
  • Prepare project planning documents (work plans, quality control plans, health and safety plans, sampling, and analysis plans).
  • Understand applicable permits and plans that dictate how each task shall be performed.
  • Conduct fieldwork preparation (procuring subcontracts, materials and equipment, and scheduling subcontractors/vendors).
  • Support environmental compliance in Wastewater, Storm Water, Groundwater, and Solid Waste programs through documentation, sample preparation result analysis.
  • Compile and interpret complex technical data and prepare technical memorandums and project reports as the principal author; respond to internal, client, and regulatory comments.
  • Work and communicate in a team environment to ensure quality project execution.
  • Assist the Technical Lead supporting project technical and financial goals and collaborating with stakeholders to successfully meet project objectives.
Key Responsibilities - Field:
  • Comply with project planning documents (work plans, quality control plans, health and safety plans, sampling, and analysis plans).
  • Perform soil, groundwater, sediment, wastewater, storm water sampling in accordance with applicable permits and plans.
  • Perform routine facility inspections and reporting.
  • Complete required field documentation.
  • Coordinate with the analytical laboratory to have required bottles on-hand and to deliver collected samples to the laboratory.
  • Critically think and make sound decisions to troubleshoot issues while working in the field.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Engineering, or related Environmental Science field with 3-5 years of field environmental sampling experience, OR Master’s degree in Geology, Engineering, or related Environmental Science field and 1-3 years of field environmental sampling experience
  • Ability to gain access to Department of Defense project sites (US citizen with the ability to pass a federal background check).
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record and the ability to travel and drive regularly.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with environmental compliance under Clean Water Act (CWA), National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), Industrial Stormwater Multi-Sector General Permit (MSGP), and Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail, with excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service, build rapport with clients, and remain responsive to client needs and expectations.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with the project team, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow directions and work independently, as well as in a team environment, and understand project roles and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates a high standard of quality for work products.
  • Possess a positive professional attitude and be flexible when challenges arise.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with local City of Fairfield, Solano and Yuba Counties, and CA state regulations and permit compliance, focusing on water quality.
  • Knowledge of CWA, NPDES, MSGP, MS4, and other environmental regulations.
  • Ability to become a registered professional (PG, PE, PMP).
  • Possess 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification with current 8-hour refresher training.
  • Hands‑on field experience with soil, groundwater, sediment, wastewater, and storm water sampling.

Compensation Range: $70,304 - $75,000 Annually + Benefits (Based on Experience)
