TELUS Digital is seeking an Geography & Map Specialist - Intermediate to join its AI community on a part-time basis. You will review satellite imagery to verify AI detections of landmarks, routes, and place names, ensuring accuracy for real-world maps used in delivery and travel.

This role focuses on interpreting local geography with native language proficiency and basic English for team collaboration. The position is remote, offering flexible engagement as an independent contractor within TELUS

Responsibilities

• Confirming Landmarks: Tell the AI if a photo shows a hospital or a mall.
• Route Checking: Ensure AI routes are feasible (no parks or paths).
• Naming Places: Use local knowledge for neighborhoods, streets, and natural features.
• Environmental Tagging: Help identify forests, rivers, or new construction on maps.

About the Role:

Do you have a degree in Geography or Urban Planning? AI models power the maps we use every day for delivery and travel, but they often struggle to understand the real world. At TELUS Digital, we are looking for Geography enthusiasts to be the \"eyes on the ground\" for our AI. You will look at satellite images and maps to make sure the AI is identifying roads, buildings, and landmarks correctly. You help the AI understand exactly where things are.

What You’ll Do (Simple Tasks):

Confirming Landmarks: Look at a photo from space and tell the AI: \"Yes, that is a hospital,\" or \"No, that is actually a shopping mall.\"

Route Checking: Look at a map and make sure the AI isn't suggesting a route that is impossible (like driving a car through a park or a walking path).

Naming Places: Use your local knowledge to make sure the AI is using the correct names for neighborhoods, streets, and natural features in your region.

Environmental Tagging: Help the AI identify things like forests, rivers, or new construction sites on a map.

Qualification path

Mandatory Qualifications:

Education: A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, Urban Planning, or Environmental Science.

Native Language: Native-level proficiency in your primary language. You know your local area better than any global map does.

English Proficiency: Basic (B1) English to communicate with our project team.

Visual Accuracy: You are good at reading maps and recognizing shapes and patterns in satellite photos.

Assessment:

In order to be hired into our community, you’ll go through a subject-specific qualification exam that will determine your suitability for the position and complete ID verification.

Payment:

Currently, pay rates for experts range from $10 - $20 USD per hour
