Job summary

Geosyntec Consultants is looking for a dedicated Geoenvironmental Engineer in our Northern California/San Francisco Bay Area offices, including Davis, CA. This role involves applying engineering skills in site characterization, landfill design, and ensuring compliance with regulations.

The position offers the opportunity to develop both technical and business skills in a supportive, innovative environment. The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree and at least 5 years of experience in engineering.

Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Geoenvironmental Engineer to join our geoenvironmental and geotechnical practice in our Northern California/San Francisco Bay Area Branch in our Oakland, Walnut Creek, Sacramento, or Davis, CA office. The opportunity to work a hybrid schedule may be available at the discretion of the Company. The position will apply your engineering skills in real‑world situations on projects involving site characterization; landfill and compost facility design and construction including construction quality assurance; solid waste planning; static and seismic slope stability evaluations; civil infrastructure design; applications of geosynthetics; and permitting and regulatory compliance, while further developing the business skills required for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Civil and stormwater design and site layout for landfill and composting facilities.
  • Engineering analyses such as slope stability, seismic design, foundation design, leachate and landfill gas modeling, and seepage.
  • Preparation of permit documents such as Joint Technical Documents and closure plans, solid waste management permits, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, engineer’s cost estimates, and construction quality plans.
  • Fieldwork associated with investigation, design and construction services.
  • Project/task management.
  • Understanding of local, state and federal regulations related to solid and hazardous wastes; and
  • Assisting in the development of proposals and other business development activities.
  • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed.
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, geologic or geotechnical engineering. (required)
  • Advanced degree in the same field. (preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration or the ability to obtain P.E. registration within 1 year. (preferred)
Skills, Experience And Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Demonstrated strong interest in solid waste. (required)
  • Strong oral and technical writing skills. (required)
  • Interaction with regulatory agencies such as CalRecycle, State Departments of Environmental Quality or Health, Regional Water Quality Control Board, Department of Toxic Substances and Control. (preferred)
  • Experience with modeling/design tools such as Civil3D or Microstation and Slope/W. (preferred)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)Available to travel for project related work. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client‑driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified California locations below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec’s total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $97,255 / Maximum Salary: $126,430 (Davis, Sacramento)
  • Minimum Salary: $101,675 / Maximum Salary: $132,180 (Walnut Creek, Oakland)
