Job summary

Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) seeks a Research Technician II to support genomic studies of brain development and neurodevelopmental disease mechanisms. The role involves mouse handling, molecular biology, genomics, and single-cell sequencing workflows in a collaborative lab environment.

The ideal candidate has a life sciences degree and 2–4 years of related academic-lab experience, with strong record-keeping and the ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences required; master’s degree considered.
  • 2–4 years of relevant academic lab experience required.
  • Experience with mouse handling, colony management, tissue collection, genotyping, or related procedures.
  • Experience with standard molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning).
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and sterile technique.
  • Familiarity with genomics or single-cell workflows is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mouse-related lab work: husbandry, colony tracking, genotyping, tissue collection, and molecular analysis.
  • Assist with CRISPR perturbation experiments and genomic analysis.
  • Carry out DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, and sequencing prep.
  • Support single-cell genomics workflows and library preparation.
  • Maintain mammalian cell cultures and organize reagents and data records.
  • Adhere to biosafety, animal research, and lab compliance policies.
