Job summary

Syngenta's Bioinformatics team in Durham, NC seeks a Functional Genomics Intern to analyze next-generation genomics datasets, apply AI prediction tools and deep learning models to biological problems, and contribute to reproducible workflows and team reporting.

You will collaborate with bioinformatics scientists to develop computational genomics skills, create visualizations and summaries, and help prepare written reports for multidisciplinary meetings.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing an MS or PhD in Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Proficiency with Linux/Unix command-line environments and shell scripting.
• Experience with analytical coding languages such as Python or R.
• Knowledge of molecular biology and genetics.
• Experience using Git for version control.
• Familiarity with vibe coding and use of agentic AI tools.
• Ability to work with large datasets and implement reproducible computational workflows.
• Strong problem-solving skills and effective written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Support bioinformatics scientists with high-throughput genomics data analysis.
• Use AI tools for omics data prediction and analysis.
• Apply deep learning models to optimize gene expression in crops.
• Develop and document reproducible methods, workflows, and code.
• Create clear visualizations and summaries of analytical results.
• Contribute to written reports and present findings in team meetings.
