Qualifications

  • ASCP certified or eligible (MLS/MB/CG) and certification within 3 years of hire.
  • Completes minimum of 12 hours CE annually.

Job description

Overview:

This position is responsible for performing Next Generation Sequencing and Molecular clinical testing including wet lab bench work and data analyses for a variety of assays. This position is also heavily involved in quality control and operational improvement within the Institute for Genomic Medicine. Creation of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Libraries: Genome, Exome, and RNA-Seq; Molecular based assays: Sanger Sequencing, SNP Genotyping, FragileX, Bone Marrow Engraftment Monitoring, etc. MiSeq, NovaSeq 6000, NovaSeq X+, SeqStudio Flex

Position Hours:

Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5pm with rotating weekend coverage or Tuesday - Saturday 8:30am - 5pm.

Experience:

Experience in human genetics/genomics, molecular genetics, or related field required. Next Generation Sequencing experience preferred.

Job Description:

Essential Functions: Performs routine and complex technical laboratory procedures and follows proper equipment use, maintenance, and documentation. Drafts patient reports by interpreting assay results and records laboratory processes and data, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Performs Quality Control testing of newly received reagents, chemicals, and kits used for patient testing. Completes all quality training and participates in quality assurance programs. Reviews the status of clinical and research cases with appropriate leaders. Identifies and communicates problems, errors, and deviations in lab processes. Maintains a safe working environment, following applicable laws and regulations and assisting with ongoing safety audits.

Education Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, or Bachelor's degree equivalent education as defined in the Code of Federal Regulations: 42CFR493.1405(b)(5)(i)(B).

Certifications:

American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certified or eligible for certification as a Technologist by an approved agency - MLS(ASCP), MB(ASCP), or CG(ASCP), required. Certification exam must be passed within 3 years of hire date. Completes minimum of 12 hours Continuing Education annually.
