Job summary

Almara Maternal Fetal, part of i-Health, seeks a perinatal genetic counselor at our Edina, MN location. Work with a physician and experienced team to provide counseling and coordinate screening and testing for pregnancy-related genetic concerns.

The role requires a Master’s in Genetic Counseling, board certification or eligibility, Minnesota licensure, and preferred 2+ years in perinatal counseling. This PT position offers a collaborative environment within a supportive health system.

Qualifications

  • Graduated from an accredited Master’s level genetic counseling program.
  • American Board of Genetic Counseling certification or ABMG certificate upon hire.
  • Two or more years of perinatal genetic counseling preferred.
  • Fulfill the expectations for a Genetic Counselor as outlined by the ABGC.
  • Licensed as a Genetic Counselor by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice.

Responsibilities

  • Provides genetic counseling for patients under the supervision of a physician or in consultation with a physician.
  • Provides high quality care in accordance with the National Society of Genetic Counselors and Code of Ethics.
  • Counsel patients and families on genetic risk factors, family history.
  • Coordinate serum screening, molecular diagnostic testing or carrier detection screening.
  • Develop and provide educational services to health professionals and community groups.
  • Develop educational materials regarding genetic disease for patients, families, health professionals
  • Interact professionally with health team members
  • Reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served in care
  • Support patients through challenging pregnancies
  • Communicate with patients, families and primary obstetricians
  • Serve as expert resource to patients, families and staff
  • Participate in ongoing educational activities
  • Remain flexible with changes in patient activity and workload
  • Any and all other duties as assigned

Job description

Almara Maternal Fetal provides excellence in diagnostic obstetrical ultrasound, fetal diagnosis and treatment planning, genetic counseling, and consultation for medical/fetal complications of pregnancy. You will work closely with another genetic counselor and report to a Maternal Fetal Medicine physician, along with skilled and experienced sonographers and registered nurse clinical coordinators. We value evidence-based patient care, work/life integration, and education.

PT role, .75 FTE, 3-4 days a week M-TH 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM out of our Edina location.

Almara Maternal Fetal is a part of Almara Women's Health which is an operating division of Infinite Health Collaborative (i-Health), a group of local medical practices, owned and led by its physicians, on a mission to give patients more control over their healthcare.

Essential Job Functions.
  • Provides genetic counseling for patients under the supervision of a physician or in consultation with a physician

  • Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with health team members
  • Demonstrate ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
  • Provide a vital role in supporting patients through challenging pregnancies
  • Compassionately communicate with patients, family members, and primary obstetrician
  • Serve as expert resource to patients, families and staff
  • Participate in ongoing educational activities
  • Remain flexible and responsive when changes occur in patient activity and workload
  • Any and all other duties as assigned
Education and Experience.
  • Graduate from an accredited Master's level genetic counseling program
  • American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Boards of Medical Genetics Certificate upon hire
  • Two or more years of Perinatal Genetic Counseling preferred
  • Fulfill the expectations for a Genetic Counselor as outlined by the American Board of Genetic Counseling
  • Licensed as a Genetic Counselor by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice

  • Actual starting pay will vary based on education, skills, and experience.
  • The pay range displayed reflects full-time compensation and will be prorated for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

Working Conditions.
