Energy Systems in Marlborough, MA is seeking a skilled Field Technician to inspect, maintain, and repair generators, read schematics, and support emergency service calls. You will work with diesel and gas engines, ensuring safety and reliability in industrial power systems.

Qualified applicants have a high school diploma, 1 year mechanical experience, valid driver's license, and the ability to obtain Generac certifications. This is a full-time on-site role with training and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of mechanical design, AC/DC circuitry, power generation and wiring schematics.
  • Ability to obtain Generac certification in air-cooled and protector series.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical, electrical, troubleshooting and repair of generators.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs during and outside business hours.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on generators.
  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and work orders for maintenance/repair.
  • Detect faults and report to service manager promptly.
  • Stay current on NFPA and state regulations for emergency power systems.
  • Create reports for work performed in FieldServio.
  • Communicate findings via phone, email and in-person.

Major Responsibilities
  • Perform technical skills including but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, troubleshooting and repair of generators.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of generators both during normal working hours and after-hours, weekends and holidays as directed.
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance service and/or repairs of generators.
  • Read and interpret operational manuals, electrical schematics, universal generator literature, and work orders to perform required maintenance and/or repairs.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material and report them and any other unusual situations to the service manager in a timely manner
  • Stay current on National Fire Protection Association and State regulations for Emergency Power Supply Systems.
  • Create reports for all work performed in FieldServio.
  • Communicate report findings through but not limited to phone calls, emails and in person communication.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Working knowledge of mechanical design, AC and DC circuitry, power generation, wiring schematics, and connection diagrams
  • Working knowledge of Engine maintenance and troubleshooting of natural gas fuel systems.
  • Knowledge of power generation; light tower, pumps, and heating products
  • Working knowledge of diesel or gaseous engines
  • Moderate troubleshooting skills, the ability to make independent decisions, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of transfer switch operations
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Generac certification in the air-cooled and protector series courses
  • Ability to work and communicate well with others
  • Ability to provide detailed reports within 24 hours
  • Ability to manage and respond to emails, texts, and phone calls in a safe and timely manner

Production Environment (Includes professionals who are active on the shop floor) (For Field Technicians): While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; and to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to walk, stoop, crouch, bend and reach above shoulders. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance, waist high, up to 10 feet away. This job's specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working in the typical conditions of a manufacturing environment, including seasonal variations in temperatures and occasional exposure to manufacturing fumes or byproducts. The employee must comply with the assigned location PPE requirements, including but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, appropriate gloves, clothing, and shields for required tasks, and closed-toed or safety shoes as required by facility safety policies. The employee must be able to work in varying weather conditions including extreme heat, snow, and ice. The employee may be required to obtain a DOT Medical Card and have the ability to drive a heavy-duty truck on a daily basis.
