Job description

Generative AI Engineer

Location: Remote

Clearance: Must be a US citizen and eligible for secret clearance

Compensation: $200k-$250k + Equity

Base pay range: $200,000.00/yr - $250,000.00/yr

We are partnered with a leading Defense tech start‑up heavily growing their machine‑learning engineering team and are looking to add a Generative AI Engineer who can help build out applied AI features in their platform. The role will have a heavy focus on retrieval systems and below gives a good understanding of what you will do and what you need to be considered for the position:

What You’ll Do

• Design and implement hybrid retrieval systems that blend semantic, symbolic, and graph‑based approaches
• Create data pipelines for encoding and accessing operational knowledge using LLMs, vector databases, and tailored chunking/indexing methods
• Build and fine‑tune retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) systems suited for critical, high‑impact use cases
• Develop and integrate knowledge graphs into retrieval workflows to enhance context and precision
• Work closely with ML engineers, product teams, and subject‑matter experts to turn complex requirements into robust, deployable solutions

Core Technologies

• Vector databases and hybrid search architectures
• Embeddings and transformer‑based models
• Knowledge graphs (e.g., Neo4j, RDF, SPARQL, or custom schemas)
• Python, distributed systems, and ETL pipelines
• Docker, Kubernetes, and edge computing environments

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field—or equivalent practical experience
• 2–4 years of hands‑on experience in applied ML, information retrieval, or knowledge systems
• Strong proficiency in Python
• Background in semantic search, vector databases, and retrieval system development
• Experience working with ETL processes and structured, domain‑specific datasets
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and performance optimization
• Familiarity with testing, evaluation, and benchmarking of retrieval systems
• Awareness of security best practices in data processing and system design
