Job summary

Air Products in Petersburg, VA seeks a Generated Gas Supervisor to lead a 250 TPD ASU, focusing on safety, compliance, and operational excellence in oxygen and argon production.

You'll supervise daily plant operations, manage maintenance budgets, and mentor staff while collaborating with maintenance to drive reliability and process safety.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of operations and/or maintenance experience in an industrial plant environment is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Handle the site's Basic Safety Process (BSP) and Process Safety Management (PSM) programs, supporting Air Products' dedication to achieving zero injuries.
  • Ensure environmental compliance with Air Products policies and all applicable governmental regulations.
  • Maintain an understanding of safe operating parameters, design specifications, and permit limits.
  • Support all aspects of daily plant operations, including troubleshooting process issues, supervising plant activities, and handling site projects.
  • Identify maintenance concerns and partner with the maintenance team to develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance and mechanical integrity programs.
  • Implement and promote best practices across site operations.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Reimagine What’s Possible Air Products is seeking a Generated Gas Supervisor for its 250 TPD Air Separation Unit (ASU) in Petersburg, VA. The facility produces gaseous oxygen, liquid oxygen, and crude argon. The Generated Gas Supervisor will be part of a two-person team responsible for supporting all aspects of daily plant operations. Key responsibilities include customer and business interface activities, safety and environmental compliance, maintenance budgeting, and employee training. This role will require the successful candidate to gain an understanding of all aspects of the site’s operation, distribution, and maintenance activities, with specific areas of focus on leadership. Effective communication skills and strong organizational skills are critical.

Qualifications:

  • An engineering degree or other technical degree is preferred but not required.
  • Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
  • Five or more years of operations and/or maintenance experience in an industrial plant environment is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to develop and mentor employees.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong administrative and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a self-starter.
