Job summary

U.S. Army General Surgeons lead a world-class military health care team dedicated to patient care and surgical excellence.

This role involves examining, diagnosing, and treating Soldiers and their families, performing surgeries, and advancing medical knowledge through ongoing education and collaboration. The position offers opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge surgical practices while serving the nation.

Qualifications

• MD/DO degree from an accredited U.S. medical school.
• Current license to practice medicine in the United States, DC or Puerto Rico.
• Must be eligible for board certification.
• Completed at least one year of approved GME internship.
• Completed a general surgery training program.

Responsibilities

• Examine, diagnose, consult and prescribe treatment plans.
• Perform surgeries for Soldiers, retirees and their families.
• Pursue continued education, trainings, seminars and conferences to learn and collaborate.

Eligibility Requirements

• Must have a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited U.S. school of medicine or osteopathy
• Foreign graduates may apply if they have a permanent certificate from the Educational Council of Foreign Medical Graduates
• Must have a current license to practice medicine in the United States, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico
• Must be eligible for board certification
• Must have completed at least one year of an approved Graduate Medical Education (GME) internship
• Must have completed a training program in general surgery
• Must be a U.S. citizen to serve on Active Duty
• Must have a permanent U.S. residency for Army Reserve
