Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a General Superintendent that will provide leadership and oversee the coordination of project site work activities and supervision of on‑site work team for multiple construction projects or large, complex construction projects. Assist in coordinating management of craft and office personnel and providing equipment facility management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil or Architectural Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 14 years construction management or related experience.
• Detail orientation for accurate and timely labor, safety, and quality reports.
• Knowledge of construction and generally accepted business practices.
• Basic understanding of Mortenson systems (labor, financial, safety, scheduling).
• Microsoft Office skills.
• Ability to travel up to 100%.
• Current driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Oversee management of construction activities and task assignments with departments to support the project schedule.
• Budget, forecast, and manage craft labor, equipment, materials, small tools, and general working environment.
• Lead schedule creation, three-week look ahead, site utilization planning, and crew sizing.
• Drive pre-construction planning sessions and site meetings.
• Provide leadership to field crews, coach, and evaluate performance of staff at multiple levels.
• Implement Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety Program on site.
• Manage and lead open shop and union issues.
• Develop relationships with visitors: customers, architects, union reps, subcontractors.
• Lead site work and logistics improvements.
• Support Field Operations Manager with monthly project reviews (budget, schedule, safety, quality, equipment).

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or a related field

10 years trade experience

Microsoft Office skills

Mortenson is currently seeking a General Superintendent that will provide leadership and oversee the coordination of project site work activities and supervision of on‑site work team for multiple construction projects or large, complex construction projects. Assist in coordinating management of craft and office personnel and providing equipment facility management.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the management of construction activities and task assignments by collaborating with other departments to ensure all required materials, equipment and inspections support the project schedule
• Work with Project Manager(s) to budget, forecast, and manage craft labor, equipment, materials, small tools, consumables, and general working environment
• Lead the creation, review and update project schedule and three‑week look ahead scheduling and oversee the development and implementation of site utilization plan and establish crew sizes
• Drive effective pre‑construction planning sessions and project site meetings
• Provide leadership to work crews and group field operations by coaching, mentorship, performance evaluations, and train field personnel, forepersons, and assistant superintendents, superintendents, and sr. superintendents
• Implement Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety Program at project site
• Manage and lead open shop and union issues
• Develop relationships with all visitors to the site: customers, architects, union representatives, subcontractors, etc.

The base pay range for this role is $178,800 MIN - $268,200 MAX. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
