Job summary

Bienville Lumber Company is seeking a Sawmill Utility/Cleanup Worker to maintain a clean, safe sawmill environment and support production. You will remove debris, assist operators, handle materials, and perform general labor tasks to keep operations running efficiently.

Physical, outdoors-based work includes lifting up to 50-75 lbs, standing for long periods, and working under varied weather conditions. High school diploma and 18+ required; full-time, overtime possible.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Preferred)
  • Must be 18 years old
  • Manufacturing or Warehouse experience preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Performs general sawmill cleanup
  • Monitors waste conveyors to ensure smooth flow of materials to hog and chipper
  • Cleans sawdust, bark, wood scraps, and debris from production areas, walkways, and equipment
  • Cleans debris under hog belt, on singulators, slasher and swing saw decks
  • Directs all Dry End and Green End waste to include the drum chipper
  • Re-enters hog overflow material occasionally
  • Performs cleanup in the hog building and resets hog metal detector and restarts hog belt
  • Shovels, sweeps, rakes, or uses industrial vacuums and conveyors to collect waste materials
  • Loads debris into dumpsters, trucks, or designated disposal areas
  • Maintains clear and safe work areas to comply with OSHA and company safety standards
  • Reports unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or hazards to supervisors
  • Performs routine housekeeping and assists with shutdown cleanups
  • Follows all safety rules, lockout/tagout procedures, and PPE requirements
  • Other general labor duties as assigned
  • Maintains fuel/oil levels in chainsaws
  • Refuels loader when needed
  • Performs pre-trip inspection checklist
  • When required, assists/relieves on other production jobs
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays if needed

POSITION SUMMARY

The Sawmill Utility/Cleanup Worker is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe sawmill environment. This position supports production by removing debris, assisting operators, handling materials, and performing general labor tasks as needed to keep operations running efficiently and safely.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities:

  • Performs general sawmill cleanup
  • Monitors all waste conveyors to ensure smooth flow of materials to hog and chipper on the round table.
  • Clean and remove sawdust, bark, wood scraps, and debris from production areas, walkways, and equipment
  • Clean up debris under hog belt, on singulators, slasher and swing saw decks.
  • Directs all Dry End and Green End waste to include the drum chipper.
  • Re-enters hog overflow material occasionally.

Working Conditions:
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in an industrial environment
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50-75 lbs repeatedly
  • Physical requirements include regularly being required to stand, walk, kneel, bend, climb and balance
  • Willingness to work outdoors or in dusty, noisy, hot, or cold conditions
  • Working in confined spaces
