Restaurant General Manager Responsibilities:

All managers, regardless of position, share responsibility for following the World Wide Wings Manager Description in conjunction with the position-specific job description in the company.

Job Purpose

The Restaurant General Manager provides leadership to ensure that all team members are guest-focused, team-focused, and community-connected. The General Manager will apply knowledge of restaurant operations, manage staff resources, provide counsel, training, development, and coaching to Assistant General Manager (if assigned), Department Managers, Restaurant Support Managers and Hourly Team Members with the goal of building sales and profits while maintaining operating standards. The General Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the assigned restaurant, ensuring the integrity of the Buffalo Wild Wings brand. Key responsibility areas include team performance, increased sales and profitability, effective cost controls, and development, training and retention of managers and hourly team members. The General Manager works to ensure the restaurant meets financial and operating goals.

Responsibilities
  • TEAM
    • Create, implement and execute the overall business staff plan, ensuring proper staffing levels by each Department Manager to build sales.
    • Prepare manager schedules according to the World Wide Wings Quality Manager Schedule Guidelines.
    • Oversee human resources function, ensuring 100% compliance with federal, state and local laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
    • Ensure employee benefits are communicated to Department Managers, Restaurant Support Managers and Hourly Team Members.
    • Provide ongoing performance feedback and recognition to all applicable managers and team members; include one-on-ones and performance reviews.
    • Hold all relevant managers and team members accountable for contributing to team and company objectives.
    • Maintain an open-door policy to encourage open communication and consistent standards.
    • Provide direction to managers for performance management of team members.
    • Effectively train and develop managers, with a focus on Department Managers and Managers in Training.
    • Create, deliver and follow up on Individual Development Plans and performance improvement action plans for managers.
    • Ensure development plans for hourly team members are delivered effectively by Department Managers.
    • Conduct informative, focused weekly manager meetings with a written agenda; model effective pre-shift meetings.
    • Ensure effective communication among all managers and team members; build positive relationships and morale.
    • Support recognition and reward programs; maintain turnover and retention targets.
    • Model exemplary leadership and ensure managers follow suit.
  • GUEST
    • Maintain guest-focused service, with consistent hospitality as demonstrated by manager interactions.
    • Respond to guest feedback constructively and promptly; empower managers and team members to act similarly.
    • Attract new guests through proactive initiatives and community engagement.
    • Build professional relationships with local businesses and organizations.
    • Deliver superior Guest Loyalty Index (GEM) results through outstanding service and product quality.
    • Ensure proper staffing levels to provide excellent guest service at all times.
    • Adhere to training standards so all staff deliver outstanding results.
    • Deliver a WOW experience for every guest, every time.
  • QUALITY OPERATIONS
    • Use feedback and audits to drive restaurant improvement (GEM, QSCs, Steritech, Mystery Shop, etc.).
    • Adhere to company systems, tools and procedures for shift execution.
    • Ensure Serve Safe Food, Responsible Alcohol Service (RAS) and HACCP standards are followed.
    • Comply with city, county, state and federal regulations related to food and beverage.
    • Stay current on new programs, policies, procedures and promotions; maintain high service and cleanliness standards.
    • Ensure managers hold team members accountable for cleaning schedules.
    • Deliver the Buffalo Wild Wings experience through effective operations and awareness of sports.
  • SALES AND PROFITS
    • Develop and implement an effective local store marketing plan within budget; use Home Team Advantage and Eat Wings/Raise Funds programs as required.
    • Approve department schedules to ensure labor efficiency and guest satisfaction; understand labor control tools.
    • Monitor utility costs and promote conservation.
    • Reconcile P&L, analyze results and communicate to the management team, focusing on Department Managers.
    • Set daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly sales goals/forecasts to meet or exceed budgeted expectations.
    • Lead Period Business Review Meetings and manage profit performance to meet budget goals.
    • Help managers understand and achieve bonus potential; hold managers accountable for P&L responsibilities.
    • Drive sales through outstanding guest experience and adherence to safety and security policies.
    • Utilize key financial tools and control systems (e.g., Aspect, Back Office, BQI) and understand Period Business Reviews and Weekly DM Summary.
    • Manage R&M issues to keep the restaurant in like-new condition; respond to business trends with corrective actions.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Solid skills in basic mathematical computations.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with company policies and regulations.
  • Minimum of 2 years restaurant or retail management experience; experience managing a restaurant with a full bar is preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license to travel between units; satisfactory background check; ability to meet physical demands.
  • Successful completion of Buffalo Wild Wings Management Certification program.
