Job Description

About the Job

You believe books change lives, and you want to lead a store that puts the right one in every customer's hands. Ready to take the helm of a store—and own its team, customers, community, and results? As General Manager, you’re the driving force behind the entire store, creating an experience customers want to come back to, building a team that thrives, and turning your passion for books into real business impact. This is a leadership role based in one of our Books-A-Million retail store locations, leading the store day to day as a Manager On Duty alongside your management team.

Role Summary

You know that great bookselling starts with people who love books, and you'll hire, coach, and inspire a team that brings that love to every customer connection. The General Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the store as a Manager On Duty, working in conjunction with the management team to elevate sales and customer service. You'll oversee the execution of all aspects of store operations - providing effective leadership, achieving maximum sales and profits, controlling budgetary expenses, and managing the store team through training, development, and accountability. A passion for books isn’t just a plus—it’s where it all starts. You’ll inspire your team to share that passion and to create a store experience that keeps customers coming back. As book retail continues to evolve, you’ll help shape what's next - connecting your community with the stories, ideas, and discoveries they’re looking for.

  • Build a team that loves books and delivers for customers by hiring great talent, putting the right people in the right place, and creating schedules and daily priorities that keep everyone focused on what matters most.
