Job summary

ODW Logistics is seeking a General Manager to lead a large, high-volume distribution center. You will drive safety, customer relations, operations, and P&L performance while developing staff and supporting business development initiatives.

You will oversee KPI reporting, implement continuous improvement, and coordinate with multiple customers and departments to ensure optimal service levels and cost control.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of management/supervisory experience in a large, high-volume environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Industrial Engineering or related operations discipline; advanced degree preferred.
• Third Party Logistics experience with P&L responsibility.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• MS Office proficiency; RF experience a plus; ISO, FDA/DEA experience considered a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee planning and scheduling of the distribution center, including shipping, receiving, returns, and admin activities to meet customer requirements efficiently.
• Liaise between distribution centers and multiple customers across disciplines.
• Lead and coordinate programs such as training, safety, cost reduction, housekeeping, and security.
• Create and report KPI metrics and monthly operations statements to customers and senior management.
• Support business development in RFQ responses with solution concepts and design.
• Ensure cost-effective operations to improve efficiency and service levels while managing P&L for assigned centers.
• Conduct operational audits and present findings/recommendations to management.
• Drive system-wide best practices and lead start-ups, transfers, and improvements.

Job description

The General Manager holds the responsibility for leading large, high-volume, distribution center. Responsibilities include safety, customer relations, operational oversight, business metrics, staff development, business development support, and P&L. This position leads teams in continuous improvement projects, as well as having heavy involvement with customer relationships and business development processes.

Essential Functions

• Oversees the planning and scheduling of distribution center and their services including shipping, receiving, returned/damaged goods, maintenance, and administrative activities to ensure the customer requirements and demands are met in an efficient manner.
• Acts as the liaison between distribution centers and multi-customers from multi-disciplines.
• Directs and coordinates various programs essential to distribution center procedures (e.g., training, safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, employee involvement, security, etc.).
• Creates, coordinates and reports on business metrics (KPI’s) applicable to the operation and fulfill customer and internal requirements. Includes authoring and publishing monthly operations statement(s) to our customer(s) point of contact, summarizing ODW’s performance in regards to SCOPE and customer requirements.
• Assists in the business development process in RFQ responses, including solution concepts and design.
• Manages, coordinates, and implements cost effective operational solutions to continuously improve efficiency and enhance service levels and quality.
• Achieves optimum business plan performance levels and adequate expense levels of material, space, equipment and overhead to meet annual budgetary plan for each distribution center. Reports these levels to Senior Management and/or clients as required.
• Holds accountability for P&L performance for assigned distribution centers.
• Conducts operational audits and presents findings/recommendations as required.
• Maximizes productivity, quality, and service throughout operations by utilizing best practice techniques in the areas of facilities layout, methods, material handling concepts, technological enhancements, and measurements.
• Provides senior management with information and recommendations to make effective decisions regarding the optimum utilization of people, materials, equipment and facilities.
• Collaborates with peers for the coordination and implementation of system-wide best practices.
• Leads and assists in all types of account projects, including start-ups, transfers and improvements.
• Leads and implements technology enhancements as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience Required

• 10 plus years of management/supervisory experience, preferably in a large, high-volume, shared environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Industrial Engineering or related operations discipline.
• Advanced degree preferred.
• Previous Third Party Logistics experience. (Required)
• Must be able to assume leadership role in a fast paced, team oriented environment dedicated to meeting and exceeding the customer and achievement of safety, quality and productivity goals.
• Must be able to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Must possess excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite products.
• Must possess hands on and have previous experience with staff development, facility layout, inventory management and P&L for a large operation.
• Must be able to learn software programs quickly, with previous RF experience.
• Establish and implement operational procedures for all distribution activities and for start-up operations – ISO experience a plus.
• AIB experience – FDA/DEA experience a plus.
• Strong analytical abilities coupled with superior team building skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize.
• Experience with multi-shift operations.
• Must possess a high energy level and the drive to implement change.
• Prior planning experience, including budgets, manning, equipment and facilities.
• Must practice confidentiality as required.

Minimum Physical Requirements

• Workweeks in excess of 40 hours and Weekends exist periodically through the year.
• Occasional weekend work.
