Job summary

FedEx Supply Chain, Inc. is seeking an Operations Manager to oversee facility operations at smaller locations, typically 75 or fewer employees. You will work with site leaders to drive safety, productivity, cost control and customer service while ensuring compliance and quality.

You will lead exempt staff, manage budgets and P&L, and implement continuous improvement initiatives across space utilization, maintenance, and reporting. Travel quarterly may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and 5 years of relevant experience.
  • In lieu of degree, high school diploma or GED and 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical and human relation skills.
  • Excellent presentation, planning and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Job description

This role is responsible for facility operations at small and less complex locations (typically with a headcount of 75 or less full-time employees). Works with managers (i.e., Operations, Quality and Inventory Control) and supervisors to implement monitoring and enhance all aspects of support to include operational performance, safety, security, productivity, cost control, customer service, and continuous improvement. The incumbent is the primary point of contact between the customer and the Company. This position has management authority, responsibility, and oversight of all contractual tasks. Responsible to identify, review and then follow internal policy to make contract revisions. This position requires the exercise of independent judgment, decision-making, and discretion. This position is responsible for product safety, quality, legality, and integrity compliance.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Manages exempt direct reports. Management responsibilities include, but are not limited to hiring, coaching, skills development, recognition and rewards, labor planning and forecasting, staff productivity and performance management to include disciplinary actions up to and including termination.
  • Preparing, maintaining and communicating all operational goals and company Standard Operations Procedures.
  • On-going management of facility fiscal performance (Profit and Loss), forecasting and yearly budget preparation.
  • Monitoring space utilization/layout and maximizing usage/making recommendations.
  • Managing, coaching, mentoring, developing staff to achieve prescribed objectives.
  • Overseeing the recruitment and new hire process and ensuring/reinforcing the Company culture is being fostered in the facility.
  • Monitoring and ensuring departmental/facility performance metrics are met in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Ensuring the accurate and timely preparation of all necessary reports and records regarding facility operations.
  • Developing, implementing and directing; equipment preventative maintenance programs, safety programs, and facility building/grounds maintenance programs.
  • Responsible to identify, review and follow internal policy to make contract revisions.
  • Monitoring facility purchasing process to include auditing, guideline compliance, and approval; creating programs to maximize cost saving for the Company and customers.
  • Ensures facility is maintained to industry regulatory specifications, if required.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Specific Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or related field preferred and minimum of 5 years' experience in logistics, operations, or supply chain management, with minimum of 3 years in managerial leadership role.
  • o In lieu of degree, high school diploma or GED and 7 years of relevant experience in logistics, operations, or supply chain management, with a minimum of 4 years in a managerial leadership role. Alternatively, military rank at E8-E9 or O3-O5.
  • Strong understanding of logistics and distribution processes, as well as regulatory requirements in the industry.
  • Proven management experience, preferably in a large, high volume logistics environment responsible for Warehouse Management System (WMS), Quality Driven Management (QDM), Labor Management System (LMS), Profit and Loss (P&L) and talent management of managers.
  • Proven experience overseeing safety programs within a warehouse or distribution environment, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and industry best practices to maintain a safe workplace.
  • Experience implementing continuous improvement programs, preferred.
  • Experience in managing full P&L financials, preferred
  • Ability to interact effectively at multiple levels, in support of our customer relationships.
  • Demonstrated self-confidence, particularly with client relationships; strong relationship building skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, teammates, customers, and the public.
  • A proven track‑record of mentoring and development of direct reports and subordinates.
  • Technical competency in Six Sigma skills: Lean, Kaizen/Work-out, process management, change management and advanced statistical analysis a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
