Job summary

Alutiiq Logistics and Maintenance Services is seeking a skilled General Maintenance Worker to join our team in Washington, DC. The successful candidate will perform maintenance and repairs on equipment under the supervision of the Lead Engineer or Project Manager, with a strong mechanical aptitude and HVAC experience.

This role requires the ability to follow detailed orders, read technical manuals and blueprints, and work independently or as part of a team, with a valid driver's license and U.S.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
• Minimum 5 years in maintenance/repair of industrial machinery including HVAC.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
• Ability to read/interpret manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
• Valid driver’s license; U.S. citizen per government contract.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repairs on equipment under supervision of Lead Engineer or Project Manager.
• Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and scheduled tasks.
• Lubricate, clean, and replace worn parts to prevent breakdowns.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems.
• Install and upgrade machinery and systems; document activities.
• Follow safety protocols and report significant issues to supervisor.
• Maintain records of maintenance activities and test equipment after repairs.

Preventive Maintenance

• Conduct regular inspections of machinery, equipment, and systems to identify any issues.
• Perform scheduled maintenance tasks such as lubricating, cleaning, and replacing worn parts to prevent breakdowns.
• Repairs and Troubleshooting:
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems with equipment.
• Repair or replace defective parts using hand tools and power tools.
• Test equipment to ensure proper functionality after repairs.
• Installation and Upgrades:
• Assist in the installation of new machinery and equipment.
• Upgrade existing systems to improve efficiency and safety.
• Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
• Report any significant issues or concerns to the supervisor.
• Safety and Compliance:
• Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company policies and industry standards.
• HVAC Systems:
• Install, service, and repair environmental-control systems in residences, department stores, office buildings, and other commercial establishments.
• Mount compressor and condenser units, fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis parts.
• Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape, thread pipe, and join tubing or pipes to refrigerating units.
• Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and power sources.
• Install air and water filters, inject refrigerant, observe pressure and vacuum gauges, and adjust controls.
• Test joints and connections for gas leaks, wrap pipes in insulation, replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring.

Clearance Required: TS/SCI

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Technical or vocational training in mechanical maintenance is preferred.
• Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in maintenance and repair of industrial machinery and equipment, including HVAC systems.
• Skills:
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must possess valid driver’s license
• Pursuant to Government Contract, you must be a U.S. citizen.
