WinnCompanies seeks a General Maintenance Technician for Fort Wainwright, AK. You will perform maintenance across rental units, offices, and grounds, including installation and repair of building systems and appliances.

The role requires basic trades skills, a valid driver's license, and the ability to follow instructions and document work orders accurately. On-site federal facility work may involve REAL ID compliance and security requirements.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • 1–3 years of relevant maintenance experience recommended.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing per policy.
  • Basic carpentry, plumbing and electrical skills required.
  • Own basic tools and ability to bring daily to work.
  • Basic computer/tablet familiarity for work orders.
  • Strong customer service and ability to follow directions.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to service calls and complete maintenance tasks.
  • Install and connect appliances (stoves, fridges, dishwashers).
  • Perform general maintenance on building structures and systems.
  • Move materials, load/unload, and transport equipment as needed.
  • Keep work areas clean and update work orders on mobile devices.
  • Complete paperwork accurately and timely.
  • Communicate issues and corrective actions to supervisor.

Job description

WinnCompanies is looking for a General Maintenance Technician to join our military housing team at Fort Wainwright, AK.

In this role, you will perform maintenance functions in the community, including rental units, office buildings, residential areas, grounds and parking lots. The ideal candidate will also perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and associated mechanical, electrical, plumbing, sanitary systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to service calls, complete Change of Occupancy Maintenance work and other property maintenance requests.
  • Transport, install and connect stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers and other electrical and gas appliances.
  • Load and unload trucks and other conveyances.
  • Move supplies and materials to proper location by wheelbarrows or hand trucks.
  • Stack materials for storage or binning collecting refuse and salvageable materials.
  • Transport equipment, furnishings and appliances to job sites.
  • Repair and fabricate window and door screens and frames.
  • Dig, fill and tamp earth excavations; level grounds using pick, shovel, tamper and rake; shovel concrete; clean culverts and ditches; cut tree and brush; operate power tools and lawn mowers.
  • Remove floor tile, sheet vinyl, ceramic floor tile and plywood.
  • Remove damaged drywall.
  • Operate power blowers or use brooms to clean roof tops, sidewalks and driveways of leaves and debris.
  • Ensure work-site clean up.
  • Respond to and complete on-call after hour emergency and urgent repairs.
  • Update work order status including time, materials and notes on mobile devices provided in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Complete and submit all required paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Keep supervisor well-informed of activities, results of efforts, problems identified/potential problems, etc.; recommend corrective actions to supervisor.
  • Maintain vehicle and vehicle inventory as prescribed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Less than 1-3 years of relevant work experience.
  • A current driver's license in good standing and ability to meet the driving records standards outlined in the Company Safe Vehicular Operations Policy.
  • Basic competency in carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades.
  • Ability to provide basic tools and equipment necessary to perform daily duties.
  • Basic familiarity with computers and tablets.
  • Sharp customer service skills.
  • Ability to read and write in English, in order to understand basic instructions and take direction from supervisors.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
  • This position is located at a federal facility. In accordance with the REAL ID Act, effective May 7, 2025, a REAL ID compliant driver's license/ID is required in order to access the federal facility.
