Job description

Job Title: General Laborer/ Tool and Die Cleaner

Location: McCurdy Tool

Department: Tooling

Reports To: Tooling Manager

Job Summary: The Tool and Die Cleaner is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and proper functioning of tools and dies used in manufacturing processes. This role involves thorough cleaning, inspection, and minor maintenance of equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cleaning and Maintenance:
    • Perform routine cleaning of tools and dies, including the removal of debris, oil, and other contaminants.
    • Use appropriate cleaning agents, solvents, and tools to ensure thorough cleaning without damaging equipment.
    • Inspect tools and dies for signs of wear, damage, or malfunction and report findings to the maintenance team.
    • Conduct minor repairs and adjustments as needed to maintain equipment functionality.

Inspection and Documentation:

  • Conduct detailed inspections of tools and dies to identify potential issues before they affect production.
  • Document the condition of equipment and any maintenance performed in logs or computerized systems.
  • Maintain records of cleaning schedules, inspections, and repairs for compliance and quality control purposes.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines while handling cleaning agents and operating cleaning equipment.
  • Follow company policies and procedures to ensure a safe and clean work environment.
  • Properly dispose of waste materials and cleaning agents in accordance with environmental regulations.
  • Follow safety protocol driving forklifts.
  • Follow safety protocol utilizing overhead crane.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with the Tooling Manager and Tooling Team to coordinate cleaning schedules and minimize downtime.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues regarding the status of tools and any issues encountered.
  • Assist in training new team members on cleaning procedures and safety practices as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or maintenance environment preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with tools and dies.
  • Ability to use cleaning agents, solvents, and cleaning equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive tasks with precision.
  • Good organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and practices related to equipment cleaning and maintenance.
  • Ability to follow direction.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and maneuver tools and dies weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Capability to stand, bend, and reach for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to handle small components and cleaning tasks.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to cleaning chemicals and machinery.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and masks may be required.

Schedule:

  • 50-55 hours weekly (1st shift)
  • Shop is open Monday Through Friday 5:00am to 6:00pm and Saturdays 5:00am to 12:00pm

  • We have an apprenticeship program at Rock Valley for Tool & Die Journeyman for anyone that wants to dedicate themselves to learning how to build and maintain Steel Molds for Aluminum Castings.
