Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a SUE Technician based in our Charlotte, NC office to support subsurface utility engineering projects. The role involves fieldwork, utility designation, and exposure to a variety of surveying technologies in a dynamic team environment.

Ideal candidates have 0–2 years in EM/geophysical tools, strong reading skills, and willingness to travel and work outdoors in all weather. A safety‑minded approach and ability to lift up to 80 lbs are required.

Qualifications

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a SUE Technician based in our Charlotte, NC office!

Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) is a branch of engineering that deals with mitigating risks associated with new infrastructure design and construction. We work closely with engineers and utility owners to help identify utility conflicts using an array of technologies, including electromagnetic line locators, ground penetrating radar, GPS, conventional survey and vacuum excavation. Our work requires a high level of precision and technical ability.

Responsibilities

• Workwith a team of talented individuals to help tackle a wide variety of projects.
• Read and interpret utility records, as-built and survey drawings and highway design plans.
• Designate existing utilities using electromagnetic and geophysical technologies.
• Operate a vacuum excavation truck and perform test holes to expose utilities.
• Utilize appropriate maintenance of traffic.

Qualifications

• Minimum 0-2 year experience in using electromagnetic and geophysical designating technologies.
• Must be able to quickly grasp new technologies.
• Need to have a high level of reading comprehension and communication skills.
• Should enjoy working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
• Need to be able to occasionally travel out of town and work overtime.
• Should be able to walk long distances of several miles daily.
• Will sometimes be lifting heavy equipment up to 80 lbs.
• Must prioritize the safety of yourself and others.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
