The General Laborer performs a variety of manual construction work such as digging by hand, lifting, holding, pushing, and other duties necessary to install various utilities in a safe and efficient manner in the electrical utility market. The General Laborer is responsible for the cleanliness of the job site, performing general maintenance on equipment, and loading and unloading materials, tools, and equipment.
Responsibilities:
- All phases of underground construction, including but not limited to: loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal, and placement of various types, sizes, and weights of construction material and equipment.
- Hand dig using shovels and/or mechanical tools.
- Install and maintain underground telecommunication cabling.
- Climb into and out of equipment.
- Operate and/or work around heavy equipment and machinery.
- Perform general construction work under the direction of a Foreman/Supervisor.
- Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies.
Physical and Environmental Factors:
- Ability to work outdoors and in all types of outdoor weather.
- Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, carry, and lift as needed.
- Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet, and limbs in performing skilled movement.
- Ability to travel and be away from home for extended periods around the US.
Education and/or Experience:
- Experience working with hand tools and equipment. Previous experience working with a team in some fashion of construction-related roles is preferred but not required.
- High School Diploma and/or GED is preferred but not required.
Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License; Class A CDL is preferred.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment screenings, including drug tests and background checks.
- Ability to work in a team and be involved.
- Eagerness to learn and follow instructions.
- Ability to safely maintain and operate equipment and hand tools.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and carry out instructions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow through on certain duties.
- Abide by JU’s and Manufacturer’s safety procedures and industry safety standards, and attend mandatory safety meetings.
- Must be able to travel to various sites as required outside of WI.
