Job summary

Rumpke Waste and Recycling is seeking General Laborers in Morehead, KY to perform grounds maintenance and facility upkeep. You will operate hand tools and assist with waste cart organization while adhering to safety standards and OSHA guidelines.

Role requires ability to work outside in varying temperatures, read English instructions, and communicate professionally with customers and team members. Flexible hours, including nights and weekends, may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience with hand tools preferred.
• Must read and speak English well to understand directions and safety training.
• Ability to communicate effectively with customers and coworkers.

Responsibilities

• Maintain facility grounds including mowing, trimming, and trash pickup.
• Operate hand-held, electrical, and gas-powered tools and equipment.
• Ensure safe operating condition of equipment per policy and OSHA.
• Assist with organizing waste carts, bins, and route support as needed.
• Perform safe driving practices when transporting containers and bins.
• Support maintenance shops and perform minor repairs and painting of containers.

General Laborers are responsible for general upkeep and maintenance of the facilities and facility grounds. General Laborers may also perform custodial duties in the offices, maintenance shops, etc. This position may also assist in various lines of business.

Responsibilities of Position:

• Maintain facility grounds-keeping including but not limited to mowing, trimming, picking up paper/trash from facility grounds and surrounding areas
• Operate various hand-held manual, electrical and gas-powered tools, and equipment
• Maintain and ensure the safe operating condition of assigned equipment and tools according to Company policy and OSHA
• Assist with the organization and distribution of waste carts and bins
• Perform safe driving practices while transporting, loading, and unloading containers and bins
• Act as a helper on route as needed
• Assist with general housekeeping of maintenance shops and offices
• Perform minor repairs and general upkeep of facilities
• Clean, prepare, and paint containers
• Build, repair, and install erosion control such as silt fence and straw bales
• Professionally interact with internal and external customers
• Pressure-wash and perform minor repairs to waste carts, bins, containers, and portable rest rooms and prepare for delivery as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility:

• This position will not manage employees

Skills & Abilities Needed for Position:

• Mechanical aptitude preferred
• Self-starter, strong work ethic and ability to work with minimal supervision
• Good written and verbal communication skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external customers
• Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training

Experience & Knowledge Needed for Position:

• Experience working with various hand tools and equipment preferred

Physical Requirements in a Regular Workday:

• Continuously lifting/carrying a max of 10 lbs
• Frequentlypushing/pulling a max of 10 lbs
• Occasionally lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 35 lbs
• Rarely lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling a max of 100 lbs
• Continuously working outside in changing temperatures, wet/humid conditions
• Continuously working in areas of dust, odors, mist, gases, and other airborne matter
• Occasionally stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling
• Occasionally climbing and/or balancing
• Continuously standing
• Frequently walking

Additional Working Conditions/Aspects:

• Possible exposure to high traffic conditions and/or tight driving areas
• Exposure to residential and commercial waste
• Ability to travel between offices, as required
• Ability to workflexible hours; expected to work nights and weekends as needed
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and/or holidays
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• Valid driver’s license (if applicable)
• Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
• Must be able to read and speak the English language
